Unfortunately all animals have dander & most shed. I have been told that a non shedding dog is a poodle who has hair similar to a human (but we shed as well, don't we). There might be one or two more out there but I'm not sure which ones they might be.
Having a dog is a big responsibility and the dog needs walks, attention & play time, you are in an apartment which means that any pet you choose will more than likely be cooped up most of the time, maybe a virtual pet would be best for you at this time. Good luck

Almost all dogs ,...and cats shed hair but they don't get "dander" unless they have a skin complaint.
There are however options in the form of hairless dogs and cats or poodles (which have hair and it just keeps growing like human hair). All of the above are potentially high maintenance either in helping the hairless to control their body temperature or a lifetime of haircuts for the poodles. As all "animals" normally have fur and therefore moult out their winter coats perhaps you should look at some other form of pet.
Birds annually moult out their old feathers so that may not be an option either because that's pretty messy too. Fish are nice and clean, reptiles and rodents are all usually kept in an enclosed container similar to a fish tank so they might be a unusual option for consideration. Any way, good luck with the pet hunting.

Ugh-people all cats and dogs shed and produce dander! Some make less than others but all will shed.
Poodles, greyhounds, whippets, basenjis, schnauzers, and cresteds are better for those with allergies. But that is no guarantee. As for cats-well, I don't know of any other than the hairless ones that don't shed much. Brushing your pet and feeding good quality food will help cut back on the hair. For cats-the allergin is in the saliva-they lick, it dires, it flakes off-bam cat allergies.
Please don't let someone sell you on a "allergy safe" or "non-shedding" breed. If you fall for it you will be disapointed and may end up with a pet you can not keep. Be prepared for some hair, commit to grooming your pet, and research any of the breeds you like (try the AKC website) and go for the breed you like best. That way you have what you want not what you felt you had to get and cleaning will not be such a task. Best of luck!

I would not get a very big dog, I had a Lab in an apartment. My sister in law has a Maltese, expensive but so sweet and beautiful! My other sister has a weiner dog (dashound) he is sooooo cute! Except he pees alot. Maybe try researching dogs species and seeing which ones are better suited to indoor living here are a few sites:
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/quickreference.htm
http://www.terrificpets.com/dog_breeds/
www.dog-breeds.net
www.pupcity.com
Also, Try getting a cat, less maitence cost less, and sweet as can be! Dont pee anywhere either, If you want a cat I say save one from your local community shelter, most cats attitudes are the same, why not save one instead of buying one off a breeder?

Get one it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. My dog loves me if I have a bad hair day, am in a bad mood or wearing anything I want Wew live in an apartment too and if you are worried about shedding get a short haired dog. PLEASE go to an animal rescue to find your dog The dogs there have had a hard time of it and will be grateful that you adopted them. We did

Pomeranian.
Don't get a dog if you have no intentions of spending a lot of time with it, especially a Pomeranian. They need a lot of attention but are one of the best breeds out there, as far as training and being a good companion and for those who live in apartments.

Get a Shih Tzu. They do not shed at all and very good for people with allergies. We have one and my husband is allergic to dogs -- he has no problems being around our dog.
We got our Shih Tzu from this great breeder. I belive they ship nationwide. Check them out: www.arizonashihtzu.com
