Ex-generals have the experience to know it's pointless and stupid.

I only have 2 close friends that are former military, but both are vigorously opposed to war.

one said "how many times can you go to the funeral of a close friend and try to explain to his wife his death wasnt for nothing, when you are actually fighting over there and dont even see a point to it."

Most non-military people don't see the "war" in the same light as the generals.
Military people are trained to fight real wars. A war is a conflict between two or more nations. All soldiers wear the uniform of their anmy. There is a way of ending the war. When all of the enemy territory is taken, the war is over.
This fracus is not in any way a war. We've been using the "war" designation too long. The war on drugs, the war on poverty, the war on crime, and now the war on terrorism.
None of these wars can be won. Crime can be reduced, the same with terrorism, drugs, etc., but they will never be completely wiped out.
This is not the work of the army, it is police work. All of the above are crimes, are not military actions. Crimes are controlled by the police. Military actions by the army.

If you know anything about the military, high ranking officers are politicians...Congress decided who becomes a General and who doesn't...so like the saying goes, "...it's who you know, and who you blow..." First thing you have to look at is who appointed the General...Like Wesley Clark was appointed under Billy Bob Clinton, so that tells you he is a liberal...but truth be told he was not that good of a General either...you see he did not get much of the military vote because people knew him...and secondly you have to look to see if the General speaking is looking to run for office, if he is a Democrat he can not say supports the war now can he, and still get the Liberal vote...to sum it up Generals are politicians and most people who support the war are not...

People who support ANY illegal immoral War are usually ill-informed or stupid. The Soldiers are not the Problem, the Politicians who direct them are.

Why did the Germans support Hitler?, they were blinded by Patriotism, Goring once said

"Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. ...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country" Hermann Göring

Sound Familiar?

"If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy."
-- James Madison Fourth President of the United States (1809-1817).

I can tell you Tommy Franks is not one of those you are referring too. As far as all females on yahoo, I think you're mistaken. Not all of them support it but I can say that I am very proud that I AM one of them that support a war against people that want us wiped off the face of the earth and I am mighty proud to support our Troops!!
