I don't know if the steering is loose or alignment is off. Every time I am going straight down the road, I am always correcting the steering. Does this vehicle have over sensitive steering or is it just me?

Start with an alignment..It'll do wonders. If it still wanders then replace the steering dampener. If you still have the problem you have two choices, Either the wheels are very much oversized or you need a steering box.

It's a big, stupid, school bus-sized SUV. What were you expecting exactly?

Check your tire pressure and the bushings in the steering linkage. Make sure the steering stabilizer shock is in good conditon or consider upgrading it to a better gas unit. Larger wheels and lower profile tires would help the handling/steering somehwat as well.

Drive on a very flat and level road, and let go of the wheel for a second or two. If it consistently drifts to one side or the other, then it's probably an alignment issue. Get your alignment checked.

Have the front end checked out for ball joints worn out and any other steering link worn or loose. Check tire pressure too.The steering box can cause a truck to wander so inspect it also .If all these seem OK Inspect the alignment. These truck do wander some what but not like your describing.
Good luck hope I helped

Ive owned an 89, and a 99, and they both suffered the same problem, I solved this problem on both rigs by replacing ALL the stock rubber bushings including the body cab mounts with poly bushings, EXCELLENT results. the entire kit is around 120bux and takes about a weekend to replace everything. if you do this be careful when you get back in because the steering characteristics wont be ANYTHING at all what they were.

does the steering wheel vibrate while driving?
if so, you need an alignment

Does it pull to one side when braking?
if so, your wheel bearings could be going or you could have a brake problem

over sensitive steering would mean that you just barely turn the wheel and the vehicle responds by turning a LOT

It's a GM what do you expect? It feels like it's all over the road because it IS all over the road! Trade it in.

it could be a few things....with your front suspension or as simple as needing an alignment....take it to your local shop and have them check the front end out

also look at the tires, if they are "El cheepo's" or wide wide off roaders it will feel like your trying to chase a pig with a stick
