Why don't they all believe the same thing? I understand that they all believe in Jesus, but many Christians interpret the Bible differently and there are several different versions of it. Some Christians say they are not required to follow old law, some say they are. Some are born again, and some are not.

So with all these different beliefs and noone can be really sure, is it possible that Christianity is like other religions in which noone is really sure if they are right?

OUT-standing question. this is the thing about religion on a whole. it is made up of people. you can tell a thousand people the sky is blue because frozen moisture in the upper amosphere refracts light comming from the sun and forms a blue "haze". now of this thousand people, a few will accept it. some will will try to over explain it, some will try to come up with other ideas that kind of rely on the simple explanation, some will (kid you not) build a seperate "religion" on the frozen moisture itself.
the simple reason for the multitude of christian denominations is becasue instead of just reading the bible and communing with god over time to grow in its understanding and teachings... most people build thier "faith" off what other people tell them. i know hundreds of church goers who never read the bible, they merely sit in church and listen to what the preacher says and never ever researches what they "think" they are hearing. its sad, but its no different than the american political system. one constitution, 6 zillion interpretations, most of which come from people who have never read it. and of those who have read it most hang theyre entire concept of what it is saying on one or two ideas and then build an entire movement around twenty five words of the constitution. its silly.
christianity is a about reading, learning, growing, and maturing within the spiritual truths of God. the simple truth is, most people want something they can read in five minutes and become an expert on in six so theyre opinions will matter and they can be judges of other people.
there IS only one truth. there is only one because there cant be more than one. One God, One Spirit, One Truth. even if you dont believe in God, there can still only be one truth. evolution or creation.. only one can be true, abortion... moral or imoral, its the killing of children or its not. but even here we find some that will try to work out the theology of what they believe with the way they personaly think it should be, then they come up with some bastardized concept when they conjoin two mutually offensive ideas and hold it up as "truth".
its no different in the christian religion. but this is the rubb. the christian Religion is splintered into many beliefs. the christian Faith is one mind, one spirit, and one truth. the christian Rleigion judges and condemns on a daily basis, the christian Faith judges no one and leaves all judgement to God.

for starters, people who have not been born again are not Christians, & if you're not born again, church is just a Sunday morning social club. There are different translations of the Bible because not everyone can understand the KJV. As Christians we are no loger under the law because Jesus fufilled the requirements of the law which was given to show the need for a Savior since no one can keep all the law by themselves. As for different interpretations, the more you study the Bible the more you get out of it.

All Christians DO have certain common beliefs that make them Christian. But we do have freedom to see nonessential points as we see fit. We're not all a bunch of cookie cutter robots, despite what you may think.

Christans believe that:
God created the universe.
God is a Trinity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus was immaculately born of Mary without male assistance.
Jesus was crucified and died for our sins.
Jesus captured the keys to Heaven and Hell, and rose from the dead. Physically.
Jesus will one day return to rule and reign on earth as He does right now in Heaven.

And finally, Christians have a personal, loving relationhip with Jesus. No, it is not quantifiable, verifiable, or logical. But it is so.

Christianity is based on faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind. Jesus was the promised messiah and king prophesied about throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament is the explaination and revelation of His coming and that He will come again.

We put our faith in Jesus Christ that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to cover our sins forever and that we might also overcome sin and death. He will forgive us for our sins and bring us into new life in Christ. We leave our old life of sin behind and walk on in newness of life in Christ.

John 14.6 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me."

Romans 10.9-11 "9 If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed."

Pretty much all Christians would agree on all this. Where we get so many groups and denominations is when a group makes it a point to focus on one particular area of doctrine.
Baptists - enternal security
Nazarene - holiness & sanctification
Pentecostal - POWER of the Holy Spirit
(as opposed to growing in the FRUIT of the Spirit)
and on down the line............
and some groups make it a point not to get wrapped up in any one particular doctrine, but also don't plug Jesus too heavy so they walk the line of being wishy washy.

We are all united in knowing Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. Some groups like to plug their own particular doctrines in the process that they feel are very important.

Hope that helps.

Jesus Loves You

Nobody agrees on all points in any field of learning or knowledge. Some are more educated and better informed than others. The truth is, if someone told you everything exactly in accordance with truth and reality, it wouldn't do you a bit of good if you were unable to discern who it was who was telling you the truth.
I believe Jesus Christ really is the 2nd person of the Godhead, come down from heaven, to reveal the true nature of God and redeem men from their sins.
I don't rely on anyone else to explain His words to me other than the Holy Spirit whom He has given to me. I don't disregard the thoughts and opinions of others, but God holds me responsible for how I live and what I do with my life.
I remember the words my father spoke to me as a very young boy saying: "Billie, remember, that in the end, it's just you and God."

The Bible is God’s Word. But some of the interpretations derived from it are not. There are many cults and Christian groups that use the Bible claiming their interpretations are correct. Too often, however, the interpretations not only differ dramatically but are clearly contradictory. This does not mean that the Bible is a confusing document. Rather, the problem lies in those who interpret and the methods they use.

First I would like to say that I am not a Christian, I belive that god made you Human, man makes you christian. But in order to know wether or not a person is a Christian. You must first find historically what a Christian was. Note it is not found in the bible. Search out the oldest Historical representaions of this faith. Hint: It is not Protestant or Roman Catholic happy hunting. Good Luck

First of all, the word christian mean to be christ-like. To be like christ. That is why they call themselves christians, however I want you to understand that God is a living and active spirit and and not all people that say they are christians truly act like christ or worship christ for that matter. In order for you to get the full understanding of the bible you yourself must have an interest in reading the word of God and asking a believer in Christ about anything you don't understand in what you read. Now when I stated that God was a living Spirit, If you truly from the bottom of your heart want to know anything God will reveal it to through his living and active spirit. But first you must have belief and have faith then God will reveal to you all things. How can you find the answer to something that you want to know if you yourself are not reading the bible. Instead of worrying about why people interpret the bible differently, you should try reading the bible and searching for the answers yourself and then ask a chrstian. Because not all people who say Lord, Lord are going to heaven, because their supplications are not from the heart, which is where God really lives. The lord lives in you. That's why the bible says ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find. Therefore, find in your best interest to reseach about God in your life. Also, it's important to read both the old testament and the new testament because it shows you how God had worked in the lives of the isrealites and how they rebelled against him. You see reading the bible one must understand that when God lead the Isrealites from captivity it was because he loved that them so much, now that story is in the Old testament, you must read. Connecting this to the world the New testament speaks of when Jesus Christ was born, and how he gave his life for us sinners today. Now, In our lives we are held captive in our own problems and feel like we can't even handle ourselves in distress. We feel like there are no solutions to our problems when we are confronted with trials and tribulations, but really that is why christ died because if you were rebellious in your old ways, Jesus christ was a living example that through him you can change and all your distresses can turn into joy. Only by believing and having faith in heart, mind, body and spirit.

Christians a hundred years ago believed that jazz was demonic and a woman who flashed her knees in public was a harlot worthy of damnation. Ditto for a female who ever wore trousers, which is one of those biblical abominations that bring on damnation to the wearer. Any white person who married a black person was righteously considered trash and anti-bible (be ye not unequally yoked, they used to quote) and he or she would not have been permitted to belong to any traditional Christian church. Persons who gambled were Satan's pawns (the Romans gambled over Jesus's garments, y'know) -- and in short everyone who didn't lead a wholly proper and prim existence would burn forever in hell.

anything is possible, but all Christians agree on the same fundamental things...

Christ is the Divine Son of God.
Christ was the Word made Flesh.
Christ died.
Christ arose from the Dead.
Christ sits at the hand of the Father.
Christ will come again and judge the quick and the dead.
