In general, when there is no evidence for something either way, what do you assume? For example, watching Lord of the Rings, you see elves. You have no evidence that they exist or don't exist, but don't you assume they are false? Why? Why is it that any time we something that we don't have evidence for (unicorns, dragons, etc), we assume they are false. I have no evidence that someone didn't just deposit 1 million dollars in my bank account, but I don't expect to find the money in there. But not God. Why believe in God without evidence, but reject everything else? I am honestly confused. I don't understand faith. I wish I had more faith in myself, but faith in general is very difficult for me. I think Jesus's philosophy in the bible is great, but he seems obviously fictional to me.

Seeing does not equal evidence. I have never seen George Washington but I have other "evidence" he exists, such as writings, paintings, etc.

You are part of the reality based world, they are not, you cannot 'make' yourself believe, be grateful not sad, knowledge is a good thing.

The Bible says that "Faith is evidence" of things not seen. Even faith requires some "evidence". Just to believe something from nothing is foolish. My faith in God stems from the fact that I believe that the Bible is an authentic document. Many of the people are historically proven, from other sources other than the Bible. The places described in the Bible are there. When Jesus was resurrected their were upwards of 500 witnesses. When the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, they did not contradict the Bible to any large degree. Our very existence is evidence of something other than just existing from nothing.....

Wow...at least you are not idle.

Anyways, all I can offer is this John 14:6. KJV in my Bible it is in red which means these are words Jesus actually spoke according to St. John.

"I have no evidence that someone didn't just deposit 1 million dollars in my bank account, but I don't expect to find the money in there" ......could that be more like wishful thinking? However, in all honesty, we can't say that this has never happened to people either ;)

Good luck on your journey

hi, you have faith in things you can see but not in things you can't see right? But if you can see them then you really don't need faith because they are there. If you saw a portrait in an art gallery even though the artist wasn't present by the evidence of the painting there must have been a painter.. When you look at a building even though the ones who built it aren't around there obviously must have been a builder. When you look around this world and see creation and examine the complexity of everything. There must have been a designer a creator. Seek the creator and you'll eventually find Jesus and He will give you peace and your faith will grow.

That is a very good point . . . and I have been sitting here really thinking about it and it has to come down to faith. Having faith is like a Knowing deep inside. I have believed in God since I was a very young child, and neither of my parents were really religious........

Just go outside at night and look at the millions of stars, a full moon, a blue sky, purple mountains, orange flowers, a setting sun......can it all really be an accident? There's no proof of that either. Personally I find that harder to swallow than a magnificent Creator who designed it All.
You don't have to be religious to be spiritual. God has no religion.

Occam's Razor states that, without evidence either way, it makes sense to assume whatever is simpler. In the case of elves, univorns, a million dollars in your bank account and God, the simpler scenarios are the ones in which they don't exist.

You assume we have no evidence that God exists, or that Jesus is the Messiah.

In fact, Messianic Jews and Christians DO have this evidence -- but God reveals Himself to us ONLY when we have first believed and trusted in Him.

You write that Jesus seems "fictional" to you and that you have trouble with faith. That's understandable. Believe me, we've ALL been there.

I highly recommend you read Lee Strobel's "The Case for Christ." He's a Harvard-educated attorney and investigative journalist who set out to disprove the Christian belief that Jesus is the Messiah. After two years of exhaustive research, he turned from atheism and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This is not a book of placating stories and misleading lies -- this guy TRULY researched the issues and found that the facts speak for themselves. It's a fascinating book that I promise you'll find highly thought-provoking.

Peace.

I can't believe anything without evidence either. Who can ever believe that something came from nothing! We learn that in 7th grade science! Or, information can come from meaninglessness, what an illogical tautology! Or that the universe has been forever, totally denying everything scientifically proven (2nd law of thermal dynamics)! Believe in "anti matter"? O.k. Spock. Believe in something that hasn't been seen or can't be proven (anti-matter), I'll believe in a creator from the evidence of science not the theories of men who don't what to submit to God.

The Scripture defines faith thusly, "Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things HOPED FOR, the EVIDENCE of things NOT SEEN." We have to understand that faith is what brings us to our knees when we cannot find the answers and after we rise again will guide us and direct us through our darkest, most troublesome times. We can only realize our dreams and desires within the scope of His will and be willing, ready and able to accept the consequence.

"Why believe in God without evidence, but reject everything else"

God wont trouble us to the extent that He provides no proofs of His existence, because He does provide us with more than enough evidences. The key is proper understanding of the holy scriptures of God.

Visit www.tafsir.com to access the proper interpretation (exegesis) of the holy Quran, one of the holy books of God.

God knows best.
