Dude, don't knock. It's Buffet Christianity, and it's the latest rage. It is so much easier to pick the items that are easier to get to as you go through the buffet line. Customer favorites are homosexuality, abortion, and that unidentifiable vague main course 'family values'. Sadly there are a few unpopular dishes that are just to difficult to get a handle on. The two most ignored entree's are poverty (nobody seems to be taking that one) and love.
It is kind of funny isn't it? The things Christ never mentioned are huge issues for todays church. The two things He mentione unceasingly are largley ignored by comparrison.

Hey Derek, not a scholar but I'll give it a shot. Everyone sins - correct. Its OK - not correct. Can we stand before God with sin - not at all. How do we then get to heaven, with Jesus' forgiveness (covers the sin - not eliminates). This forgiveness comes whats called repentance, having a heart that truly is ashamed of the sin and a willingness to stop. Only through this do we have a chance of heaven
I'm afraid I don't recognize the phrase. Jesus said to follow Him and his teaching. Only those who follow with a faithful heart as a child would have will enter heaven. Which He also said interestingly, is at hand - never that it was far away

Well, I don't think all Christians purposely go in and say, I will follow this and not that. I think some just have certain struggles with certain sins that others don't. Each of us is different and each of us had something we struggle with as far as following Christ is concerned. However, there are people who do tend to pick and choose, say like one person told me once when I asked of the Sabbath Day and shouldn't we honor it still. They said well this is the 21st century, I think God understands that. But, I thought if God is constant and never changing than what she had said was her own way of picking and choosing what she wanted to believe to be able to conform to her specific needs. It's ridiculous really. You either believe the word of God or you don't believe it. Period. If He says men cannot lie with eachother. then that's what He means. If He says Honor thy Mother and Father, that's what He means if He says love thy neighbor, you get the picture. So, I have to agree, some Christians need to remember that God doesn't change that man does. God doesn't change the rules just to make someones life better for them. We are supposed to change our lives to please God.

We both know that there is nothing like that in the Bible... however, the tone of your question leads me to believe that you are assuming Christians should be perfect... and that's just not the case...
Your final statement is half right... Everyone sins... that is true... but any Christian who sins and justifies it by saying "everyone sins so its ok" is not being very Christian like. A Christian who sins (and we all do) should immediately seek forgiveness with a repentant heart (repentance meaning to turn away from the sin).
If you have encountered Christians who seem to have a "could-care-less" attitude about their sinning ways, you might remind then to read the Book of Romans... and then just walk away from them... they're not being a very good example of Christianity for you.

I think maybe Matthew 7:21-23. Those verses mean you can never be too sure you are in the right flock of sheep. I think Christians interpret this as some kind of wiggle room to follow their own prejudices.

That's so funny, because I asked a question similar to this a while back and was flooded with holy rollers screeching at me about fire and brimstone and eternal damnation. Of course you know there is no such verse; I'm taking yours to be a rhetorical question. I will just say this: Life is short. In a matter of years, we'll all be dead and a whole new generation will be running things. We need to leave a legacy of love and compassion if we don't want to totally screw things up for our children.

Many Christians try to rationalize what they do wrong. Its wrong to do that. I'm a Christian but I believe in calling sin for what it is. Many Christians need to get off their high horse of perfection that they convince themselves they live in and actually try and make a difference in the world. What do you think?

Joshua 24:15
And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
