Thank you for your time! I am finally getting my dream puppy (Shetland Sheep Dog) I have been planning to name him (yes, I am gettiing a boy) George. I have wanted this dog for 10 years and the time is finally right and for 10 years, his name has been George. NOW my husband says "you should really wait till the thing develops a personality before you name him." BLAH. Problem is, I am so blinded with 'GEORGE' that nothing else is coming to mind....any suggsestions for names?

We had a Shetland Sheep dog when I was a kid. He was ACK registered before we got him and they named him Sir William George something. I can't remember the ending of the name. But we nicknamed him Whinnie because that fit him better then Sir William.

IF you have your heart set on a name ......go with that name. You don't wait on a human baby to get a personality before you name it, so what is different about a fur baby.

Stay with your dreams, if he is your dream dog and his name is supposed to be George, name him George. He will learn his name and learn to love it too. That is a good strong name, not a silly or confusing one to the dog. I think it is great. If he is going to have papers AKC, then you can give him a long detailed name that your husband can help with. Good luck and have fun with George.

If you want to call him George, you will see him as a "George." Your husband should understand that you've always wanted a sheltie named George and let you call him whatever you want.

Personally, I think Bailey is a good name for a Sheltie!

A sheltie-what great dogs! Mkay. I will give you some from my list when I got a pup this summer.

Pipper
Nop (a book on border collies in VA)
Pal (Lassie throw back)
Pippin
Brian (from Family Guy)

I loved Pipper for a boy or girl, but my hubby didn't. I think for a Sheltland Sheepdog Pipper woul be a great fit.

I have had many of dogs.....The best suggestion that i received when i bought my first full breed was to name it a one syllable name. This makes it easier for the dog to learn his name...Ours was Pit and he was a border collie....since then we've had Cal, Fi, Hal, and Jay... If your looking uncommon take a random word and take a name from that. my best friends pups name was Deogee or (D-O-G)

My son's basset hound puppy was named Walter before he was even born! Go ahead and call him George.

If he answers to George, leave it at that. Otherwise, Buffy, Shadow, Hunter???? I did change my cat's name afterwhile, but he was deaf so it didn't matter. Think about Mr, something, too. Good luck!
