Mostly, but not completely. In his own confused way Mel thinks of himself as a christian.

He seems completly oblivious to the true teachings of Jesus, but he is somewhat well versed in the christian popular fantasy about Jesus.

If it was it sure missed on that part. This picture was absolutely incredible. You could not be making a movie for the cash and make such a wonderful picture. The acting was great and the moods were moving every where. The scenes were extremely well designed and thought out. You don't put this much love into a picture and then make it just for money. I really believe the producers were just hoping to break even with this great movie.

Yes, I think so.
Christianity craves blood.
After watching the movie, many people said this is the movie they wanted to see. It shows Christ's pain... Blah blah.

No. Mel Gibson didn't care if it made money or not. What he wanted to accomplish was getting the message of the movie out.
