Yes. It's like an ongoing rock concert in the mind.

Actually I think that the poppies are the opium for the masses. The island may well be in the setting sun these days but when the dark follows the twilight you will feel the proof in the oppressive night. When the darkness leaves with the coming of dawn the proof will be seen by everyone.

We survive because we believe we are safe to live with other men. Not in the animal world, anyone can be another's breakfast or lunch. Cannibal only attacks or preys on other humans or enemies. This is because animals are godless. They kill others or even their own kind to satisfy their hunger. If we have no religions, human society will be chaotic. It is essential for living. We are addicted to religion. We can stop or restrict one from religion for a time. Once the circumstances permit, profession of religion will resume. Communists try hard to brainwash the masses that religion is an opium but it develops its ideology which in form is just like a religion to the masses. But a person must be drunk by a religion that teaches relationship for love, peace and harmony. Let it be so long as it does not do harm to yourself, your friend, and the society at large. The worst is extremism or overdose of opium that one believes he is the only one who lives or matters or is the master or lord.

Of Course. But the whole saying by Karl Marx is rarely used.
The saying actually goes, "Religion is an opiate for the masses, and who couldn't use a little opiate every now and then? "

Thats a good question i think it is. If you think about it i guess if there was not any religion the whole world would be in war at arms all the time. I mean they are anyway but it does keep some under control. I think religion is way to control the masses. I dont go to church i am pagan. So i dont worry about the other religions i just practice my own.

It can be used that way. The Roman Empire certainly did, as an improvement on their MO of 'bread and circuses' to keep people distracted enough to not bother with insurrection.
Christianity is especially prone to this misuse because of its emphasis on the afterlife and the promise that suffering here will be rewarded there. Islam too.
Other religions aren't so susceptible.

absolutely. It gives hope that there is something better waiting for us after this life, and provides moral guide lines to be followed, and provides the believer with a value system that's been laid out for them, and the only requirement is that the believer accepts the value system without questioning anything. You distract someone with religon or drugs (not that I haven't smoked some opium in my day) to keep them from questioning authority.

Absolutely. Nothing keeps the unwashed masses from killing eachother and raping their sheep than the threat of eternal damnation and the promise of a fantasy land full of angels, unicorns and long dead and rotted away relatives waiting for them. Why do you think organized religion was invented but to control the people.

"Religion" yes, perhaps. People get wrapped up in the rules and regulations of established religion, with their customs and traditions to give them a sense that they are "doing the right thing", therefore giving them a form of security.
I detest religion. But, I love God. I love His Son. I am not involved with religion, but I am deeply involved with a personal relationship with my God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
"Faith" is another word for "trust". I have faith in God. I trust God. I trust His Word. I trust the promptings of His Holy Spirit.
People are always looking for "proof". The proof I have that God exists is the inner dwelling of His Holy Spirit, attached to my spirit. It's real. It's tangible. It's true.
Those who don't have this will never understand. They will always seek a form of religion to give them this sense of trust. Not so.
I don't expect you to understand. If you turn to God, accept His Son, you will receive this gift of His Spirit, and then you will understand.
But, not until then.

I don't usually agree with Marx, but in this case I would make the exception.
