I just read this and thought it important to share.
NATIVE AMERICAN TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1. Treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect.
2. Remain close to the Great Spirit.
3. Show great respect for your fellow beings.
4. Work together for the benefit of all mankind.
5. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
6. Do what you know is right.
7. Look after the well-being of mind and body.
8. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greatest good.
9. Be truthful and honest at all times.
10. Take full responsibility for your actions.
Although the concept of "God" is not a part of Native American religious experience, these commandments, instead, were given to them by the Great Spirit.
Do you agree, that if we shifted our consciousness more towards this approach, we, along with our planet, would be a lot better off? What are your thoughts?

To everyone who corrected me regarding the Creator, what I meant was that our Native people's concept of god is different from the concept that sprang from the Abrahamic texts. I meant no disrespect.

Earl D - historically, pagans and Native Americans have had a close association due to some similarities in belief. Natives also took pagans in in order to save them from the witch trials. As a result, these came from a pagan friend who is in close contact with Keepshorse, a Lakota Indian.

Thank you all for your thoughtful answers. It was difficult picking "best" so I went with the person who more or less answered the question. Thanks to all!

I like those commandments much better than whiteys way of the christian version of commandments. Its funny how the bible has the commandments yet throughout the bible it tells of rape, murder, incest and all that its the main reason why i dont read it. I dont like christians or christianity and i never will. I like to argue with christians just to tell them how wrong they really are. If people followed the native way of life the red road there would be more peace. Families would be more loving and devoted there would be no need for greed. Christians are a problem they have always been a problem their motto "Lets kill in the name of god" if thats their god then i dont want nothing of it. What kind of god would it be to kill in his name? Not the kind of god i would want for me or my kids....

I am Indian and we very much believe in the Creator. We just celebrated the winter Solstice. We danced and prayed until 3:30 am. We thanked God for every living thing on the Earth. Our Creator is the same God that Christians worship. We have a creation story involving a Trinity. We experienced a holocaust many years ago during our sacred dance. The "white men" of that time did not understand that we were worshiping God. The creeks ran red with my ancestors blood. I am here as my ancestors ran and hid when the "white man" came and tried to take them away to "Sherman" Indian school . A place that they were not allowed to speak their language. A place that would not allow them to practice their culture. We survived and have our "Dance" twice a year. I am proud of my heritage. I am also Christian. My people realize the Creator and Jesus are one in the same. Peace out.

Please. The Great Spirit? That's clearly just Satan leading people astray! It's ridiculous lists like this forced the settlers to come up with Manifest Destiny. OBVIOUSLY God would want us to do away with such a peaceful, responsible, thoughtful and caring system of belief. How can these commandments be of any benefit when they don't mention GOD or JESUS???
(Sarcasm - I'm Wiccan and these commandments are beautiful.)

Thank you for your Native American Commandments. You are misled about God not being part of... The Eagle is part of my Totem and I ask that I may fly high closer to Creator. Who do you suppose Creator is?

Most positive religions have similar tenets. It's all based on morals.
And Native Americans do have a concept of God, they call it the "Great Spirit".

Sorry these commandments are no doubt only a recent invention. Usually on those pictures you find at tobacco shops. I am not saying that they are not better than the christian ones, I am just trying to destroy the implied supernatural origins of them.

I have thought this for years.
The ten we hear a lot more about seem to be used only to judge others in and endless search to find someone to be better than so we can feel good about ourselves.
Love and blessings Don

if more people would read the new testament and focused on the words of Jesus, you will see all those commandments in there.
