It can be a health issue, hair loss is not only hereditary (passed down in your genes) but it can also be caused by extreme stress, vitamin deficiency, and more. I think in the end it will all come down to the way your doctor codes it on the insurance forms.

It cosmetic unless it's been coming out in clumps. If the hair loss is due to an illness then insurance may cover it. If you're going bald like the millions of other guys do then you'll pay it yourself. Learn to live with out it. Don't buy a rug or get plugs. You'll be a laughing stock.

It's both but depends on circumstances. If it is illness related then most insurances will pay. I went to a dermatologist when my regular physician could not figure out what was going on. It depends on what the doctor you go to diagnoses you as. My dermatologist discovered that my hair loss was due to a reaction to my diabetes, so the insurance paid for treatment.

Most insurance companies consider that cosmetic and will not pay.

I advise you call your insurance company and tell them what is going on. A select few companies will pay if your hair loss caused by treatments for other illness examples: cancer (chemo) or acid reflux (pepsid). I wouldn't get my hopes up though, it is rare to find one.

Good luck!

You can live without it so I'm going to say cosmetic. Inless you were in an accident & it never grew back right then you could probably fight it, but genetic hairloss I don't believe is a medical issue.
