AP means "Advanced Placement." Students in high school take AP classes, which are more difficult than regular classes, in general subject areas like English, math, science, and history. Many colleges and universities will accept these courses in place of entry-level college courses in the same subject areas. Even if a college or university will not accept the courses, often students can test out of the courses if they did well in their AP studies.

Well, I don't really know what these Academic courses are in Canada.
I do know that AP classes are Advance Placement classes. They're supposedly taught at a college level and a much faster pace than regular classes.
You can take AP exams for the class subject and if you score well enough, you may even use those scores to get college credit for them. (It also depends on the college whether they'll accept it or not.)

USA AP classes are sometimes counted as college credit. It depends on the institution as to whether they accept it as credit or not. Probably close to the same as in Canada. AP means Advanced Placement. This means that you are advanced beyond the average student, and the classes are often very hard, just like college classes.

here they are advanced placement courses that can in some cases allow the student to aquire a college credit (which may or may not be accepted by a college) this depends on the course and the institution (just like some credits don't transfer from one college to another)

AP is just short for Advanced Placement. They are usually just courses that are geared towards college.
