I have a daughter otherwise healthy.
She does deal with some stool holding problems, though.
I was wondering does anyone deal with this problem..of low weight and stool holding.
sometimes doesnt have a bowel movement for
1 week.
She eats well but I am still breastfeeding her.
I dont know how to get her to stop.
She cries all day if I dont nurse her.

There are so many weird red flags with this question... I dont even know how best to address anything.

Why is a 3 1/2 year old so miserably unguided that she can deside whether she breast feeds and poops?

Ive seen the stool holding thing before, and every time I've seen it its been such a stressful battle of panicked wills trying to MAKE a toddler poop on some sort of schedule. The whole sitting on the toilet expecting a bowel movement... ugh. Rushing to the hospital, doing enemas, feeding the baby laxative. How silly.

And yes, the child was skinny and underweight.

If your child weighs 27 pounds, then she obviously doesnt eat much, and being breast fed still, she's not going to have huge bowel movements every day or even few days.

Once you make a deal over something as fundamentally natural as pooping it will remain and issue until you take the pressure of and let it happen on its own course. make sure she gets pleanty of fiber, and when you notice she's gone far too long without a bowel movement slip her a jimmy of some laxative or fiber suppliment. Benefiber is excellent, as your doctor about proper dosage for a toddler. It can be mixed in without any taste or texture to any liquid she will take.

Just the stress and fear of her knowing she HAS to poop on command or fight you on the issue is enough to give her constipation and all sorts of nervous problems. Just remove the stress, allow it to be natural and let her move on.

As for the breast feeding, your child as no business controlling you in that way. If you, as her mother, realize its healthy and time for her to stop suckling off the breast, then keep your shirt on and let her scream. its rediculous to stop everything just because she's having a fit and wants something.

I can remember being 18 months old, and have many many memories of that age and on. I cant imagine one of them being eating off my mothers breast. How bizzar. I know people do it and its wonderful and lovely and if its for you, great. But honestly, it creeps the hell out of me thinking that some kid will live a life remembering nursing.

Its not cool to have a nearly 4 year old who so unhappy and uncontented that she runs your life and her own. She needs some sort of support and positive influence that encourages progress and growth. She's allowed to grow up and have her own body's schedules, and a life away from the breast.

To me the whole thing just reeks of supressed growth.

You should contact your doctor....low weight would be my biggest concern. My daughter weighs 23 lbs at 15 months and that's the 50 percentile, so it's average....27 lbs at 3.5 years old is VERY low I would imagine. Also, nuring still? Isn't that kind of odd for you and her? Sorry, just my opinion, but she's nearly in school. I would deal with the crying or send her for a day and night with someone she loves (and you trust completely also like a grandparent). I have read the person breastfeeding should spend less time with the child during the "breaking" period and should NEVER feed the child youself because it will cause confusion and problems when the "old source" of food is trying to feed a "new source" to the child. Good Luck!

Is she drinking Whole Milk at all?Kids at age 1 need to start drinking it for the nutrients and fat content-your breast milk would not provide that much for a 3 1/2 year old. That could be a huge reason she is so small. My son is only 20 months old and already weighs 27 pounds and he is only in the 50% for weight.
Try cutting out 1 nursing session a day and replace it with whole milk-maybe warm it some so it is warm like your breast milk.Do this until she is off breast feeding and you will not be so sore from stopping either. She needs to stop breastfeeding before pre-school!

How tall is she? Is she a little peanut? I don't think that is very underweight at all. My daughter is very petite and weighs 55 lbs and she is 8 1/2. I would talk to a Dr. if you are concerned and get help with weaning. A child that age does not need to nurse.

I have a 5 year old who is only 30 pounds! I wouldn't worry about it. My doc always says as long as there's a "curve" on her growth chart, she's fine!
