Marge Simpson is a goddess amongst women. What's the problem? Chill out and be yourself.

There are lots of websites where you can find jokes, learn at least a dozen each week, and try to find natural conversational ways to use at least a few of them. I have found this to work very well. Be careful about Catholic/Protestant jokes in Northern Ireland, this can still be a somewhat touchy topic, and obviously convert "Irish" jokes to some other suitable nationality. You'll find the people are always ready for a laugh and will appreciate your efforts to "fit in". Don't worry about speaking more quickly, the Northern Irish have a bit of a tendency to gabble when nervous but will settle down as they get to know you, they will not appreciate you speaking more quickly as to start with they may be struggling a bit with your own accent.

Oh for goodness sake "Marge" stick with what you've got.The American accent is very nice, especially compared to that of Belfast. This fellow really hates the way your fellow country women are depicted in the likes of Friends etc. Yatta yatta yatta , no one REALLY talks at those speeds constantly.
So y'all stai as sweet as y'all.

Don't change the way you are to fit in anywhere! Just be yourself and I am sure everyone will just love you! I married a guy from Belfast....the people there are warm and friendly and have a fantastic sense of humour!

And just to clarify ..... Belfast IS part of the UK!

If you think the Irish speak fast, then you should hear how people in my area (a place in Scotland) speak! The rest of Scotland struggles to understand us! But we are usually polite enough to change our speech when we aren't speaking to someone from here. Don't your Belfast friends have enough manners to do so for you?

If you are from the South, that is just how your area speaks...I mean the Southeastern side of the US...even Texas...just try to speed it up a little. When you are there you will pick up their mannerisms and speech patters...not the accent, I hope, like Madonna. Give me a break. Anyway--have fun and good luck!

If you are going to live in Ulster, then learn to swear every third word when you speak.
