Creams, reds and golds bring a warm, rich feel to any room.
For a modern look paint walls facing eachother in one color eg - red. And the other facing walls in another color eg - cream.
Finish off with a nice cosy rug in similar colors and some funky canvas art!

Anything but magnolia! Get some sample pots and put a few colours on the wall and see what they look like in different lights throughout the day, may give you a feel for what you want.

We went with a warm pallate... the walls are a light brown (think cookie dough), we have a dark red couch and curtains, dark wood stands, and a dark rug with squares on it from Lowes. We spend lots of time in there. The living room doesn't get a ton of sun due to the porch roof, so we just went with that and we love it. Have fun!! :)

Go for something nuetral. I find it's best to keep the walls a plain colour such as magnolia and then make statements with what you have in the room - for example have different coloured curtains and sofa, etc, and make a statements with different fabrics such as leathers, linen and wood.
