my cat does this as well, she has had every test in the book ran and has came back normal,my vet said it was an anxiety issue. there is an antianxiety medicine you can get from your vet if this proves to be the cause ,but he could also have dermatitis or tiny mites on his skin which is causing it. My vet did a skin scrape test to check for these.

He sounds like he has some sort of skin irritation, maybe an allergy. You'd probably need to take him to the vet for some lotion to stop the itching. If this is a new thing and you've had him for a while, have you changed flea treatment or anything else you use for him? He may be reacting to the change.

Sounds like an allergy...could be to food or environment. Have you changed his diet recently? The vet can prescribe low allergy food. Could also be mites. Best case would be to take to vet to figure it out. I have two of my dogs on a daily Benadryl dose as they are allergic to grass and were doing the same thing. Good luck!

Hi! It could be an allergy or skin disorder of some kind. You should call your vet and make sure everything's okay. Also, I've read that sometimes this can be caused by anxiety...either separation or fear.

Check with your vet and good luck! :)

Mine did the same thing, and had to get his tail amputated before the infection hit his blood stream, and he had "allergy", so they treated him also w/ allergy shots and of course antibiotics for the tail infection.
