Suddenly, she is having accidents in her panties and experiencing separation anxiety. Her mother and father are not together (he is in her life though) and they are going through a move. Could she be stressed out and releasing it this way? It would make sense that her bodily functions are what she has total control of. My friend is a wonderful mother and they are very close. Any suggestions or opinions?

Definitely stressed out 3 year old.
Comfort her and help her clean herself up. Help her wash her clothes so that she sees she has control and responsibility for that as well. The child will recover on her own as her life settles back down.

Keep her close so she feels secure. When she is ready she will separate at her own pace.

Stress very well could be the problem. Is her father not living there a new thing? If so that could be very traumatic, plus moving is stressful. Her whole world is being disrupted, and it's pretty normal for this kind of reaction. Once the move is over and things have calmed down she should be ok.

the child sounds stressed and needs extra reassuring and encouragement about using teh potty and doing other big girl things, due to the things going on around her if she gets into trouble for whats happening she will get worse because that will add even more stress. just tell your friend to talk more with her and reassure her everything is okay and that its not her fault there seperated or moving or whatever the case may be. it will starighten itself out. its just gonna take a little while

As a mother I suggest that your friend put training undergarments on her daughter untill things settle down in her little life. The focus then can be shifted to reassuring her, giving her extra time and attention since the problem seems to be all the changes in her life.
