I know what you mean. But, I don't believe there IS a polite way to do that.

"Oh, and by the way, I just thought I'd let you know that the very sound of your voice makes me want to drive nails through my head with a big hammer." - see, it just doesn't really work out.

On the other hand, if someone is incessantly chattering or uses a loud voice or one that carries far, you should be able to ask them to please moderate their volume so you can get some work done. I did that once with a friend at work - he's a loud guy and sometimes hits points where he's very enthusiastic about something and then his voice carries across the entire office. We're still friends, he didn't take offense.

That's a tough one...you can't. She can't (really) help her voice. I know people like that though, and hearing them talk just makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up LOL. Some people know they speak in an annoying way and ham it up just to get attention. I have an old roomate who looked like Fran Drescher and would speak like her character in The Nanny alllll the time just for attention, as if this was how she normally spoke. Blech.

Well it depends, is she a sensitive type of person? Or she is someone you know would not take offense? Next time you are having a conversation politely ask her to lower her voice. Her voice may never change but at least you can hear a lower pitch right?

Unfortunately there is no polite way to do this. However if you limit your conversations with that person under the guise of keeping busy with your assigned tasks they may eventually take the hint and stop speaking to you. Good luck!

None! Not even if you offer to pay for her speach therapy. Wear ear plugs if you must to soften the sound.

Just tell her if she speaks to you again you will run her tongue up one side of her nose down the other and tie it in a knot.

This is something she can't change. You'll have to tolerate it. You'll be the bad person if you say something.
