No, you can get repairs done anywhere. If your car fails an MOT, you have 7 days to get the car repaired. Sometimes the garrage will offer to do it for you there and then if they have time, if not they can book you in but you can get it done somewhere else then take it back to the garage to have a second MOT which should be free of charge. As long as you get the repairs done 7 days after the failed MOT and get it MOTd again within that time, you can take it anywhere you want. My brother fixed his own car when it failed!!! Took it back after 3 days and it passed.

No. Get as many quotes as you want from wherever it suits you. Have the recommended repairs done and you can then either return to the garage for the MOT or choose another.

No, but if your car fails and the current MOT has expired you can only drive the car to a place of repair by prior arrangement, otherwise you are using a motor vehicle on a road without a current MOT. Obviously if the failure is really bad you may have to transport the vehicle by a means other than driving. If you are towing the vehicle with a rigid towbar the 'driver' of the towed vehicle does not need to be a licence holder for that class of vehicle as they have no control over the speed and direction of the vehicle.

You can go where ever you want - but if it's something that was fixed for the car's MOT then the repair might still be under guarentee. Ask your MOT garage first - but you can go to any garage.

You can quote around or even do them yourself and you don't have to go back to the same garage for a re-test.

No you can have your repairs done at any garage as long as the car is not under warrenty, which will state what garage you have to go to.

No dont let them con you into that one, i reckon a lot of Garages play that card on single women, it is obviously more convienient to let the same garage do the work but of course they will have an interest in failing your car on more points

definitely not and don't be fooled into it either I made that very expensive mistake once. Only caught them out when he tried to tell me he had replaced something my car didn't even have on it. As long as you have time left on your current mot that's how long you have to get it fixed otherwise its 7 days x
