Think about it for a moment. This whole idea is an early roman catholic construct.

This is why Christianity invented the concept of sin. If one can be convinced that they are at fault they can be made guilty.

Good people would foul up the process so none are allowed. If you never committed a sin in your life you would not need to be forgiven. This was unacceptable, so the idea of original sin was made up. This brought everyone into the guilt matrix. Even the good people.

Now everyone needed to be forgiven, and who suppose they needed to forgive them. You guessed it the church.

Telling everyone that they were sinners kept them coming back for forgiveness over and over.

The forgiven people who God of course liked the best also supported the church. The more suckers who could be drawn into the guilt matrix, the more wealth the church accumulated.

Guilt was a very profitable business, the idea of sin was a money maker. This idea that only the forgiven made it to heaven never really made any sense, but if you made it a part of the belief system it did not need to make any sense.

Never mind that it was the exact opposite of what Jesus taught.

love and blessings Don

It is crazy - it is also unknown in historical Christianity. The idea that only those who have been forgiven can make it to heaven is very new, and has only popped up over the last few centuries in a minority of Christians. Unfortunately, if you are from America, that is probably the only version of the story that you have heard. The largest Christian denominations in the world see things quite a bit differently.

It is not the forgiven people but the ones who accept Jesus Christ as their Savior. Through grace are you saved through faith, it is a Gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast.
Acts 16:31 states"..Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved...
It is faith alone in Christ alone.
Just remember it only takes one second of time. Peoples answers on here will be belittling, mean and rude toward Christians. That is okay.
If you find your self in a situation where you are losing your life, a car accident, cancer, whatever remember this: One second of time. You matter to God. He loves you. He had you personally in mind when he went to the Cross and died spiritually for you. So be rude now, be insulting now, but when it matters remember Jesus. Your eternal future is important. It is a great, gracious gift. Eternity is a very very long time. You'll apprecitate that one second. Peace out.

If you give your life to God then you are forgiven, there fore you can get into the kingdom of heaven, you have your ticket.
But if your just a good person and have no interest in God then why would you want to get into the kingdom, God gives us a choice as to whether we choose him or not, but through him we can get to heaven. we have to want to be with him, if some one was good and wanted in then they have that choice.

Cause in God's eyes, there are no "good" people. Only forgiven ones, or unforgiven ones.

A "good" person who has never asked for forgiveness is just a person who has not asked God to forgive him for those things that he's done wrong.
I had a friend that was a super nice, great person. I asked and asked for her to come to church with me but she always had something else to do. I knew that if she were to die that she would go to hell because she had not made things right.
But I prayed and prayed for her and her family and now they are in church.
Jesus died for our sins the least we can do is ask him for forgiveness for having to take our place.

Define "Good"

The problem with ""good" is the person who will define it.

WE could go from NO bad actions to "At least he/she tried"

From God's point no one is good (without bad actions) BUT all can be forgiven.

Simple. "Good" or "moral" people can still be tainted by evil influence a lot easier than those who've been redeemed. Christ died for a lot more than our "morality" and "goodness"; He died to set us FREE from the bondages and oppression of the temptations that lead to sin, something our individual vision of "morality" and "goodness" cannot do!
