I would have to say faith is the belief in something that is not proven. If something is a proven fact, it cannot be faith, only knowledge.

Belief is perhaps the thought that something is right, but you may or may not have proof. Like the people that believed the world was flat. It wasn't, they had no proof, but that was what they thought.

Of course, you could look online for the actual definition, but what fun is that?

Belief in the limited evidence trying to prove or disprove a theory or idea -

Faith is using it in your life.

(- I believe this guy is a good carpenter. Friends bought furniture made by him and liked it. Now he has made this decking for a veranda. I believe it should be good.
- I put my faith in him and will walk on it.
- I have heard a lot of good things about this carpenter from Nazerath)

There was a famous tight rope walker. He crossed the Niagra Falls a few times. People cheered. Then he crossed pushing a wheel barrow. People cheered. Then he crossed with bags of sand in the wheel barrow. Everyone said he could do anything.
He asked the crowd if they thought he could cross pushing someone in the wheel barrow. They BELIEVED he could. So he asked them, "Who wants to go first?" - those that cheered before, hid their faces now. Lack of FAITH.

Faith and belief are the same thing (same word in the Greek). Both mean "to be convinced," either through reason, testimony, experience, or blind acceptance.

It is funny how people think that these terms are different. They are both the Greek word "pistis."

Faith is trust- as in willing to put your weight on (a rope, or whatever)
Belief is understanding- as in reasonably confident that I know what something means, and how it fits into the fabric on knowledge. (The two words are close, but by no means synonyms)
