I'm assuming that you're talking about dry food and not the wet food. I feel my cats all kinds of different flavours of wet food, so they don't get bored with the same old, same old. They like variety, just like humans do. And their coats are soft and shiny and their tummies just fine.

Changing dry cat food "cold turkey" can give your cat the runs. If he likes what he's eating now, but you want to keep him on the old food, then gradually add the old food to what he's now eating until the change-over is complete.

However, if he's only eating the new food, and leaves the old food behind, then he's telling you his preference very clearly.

Try to avoid cat foods with lots of added colours (like Meow Mix) and the moist cubes (like Tender Vittles), since the additives will stay in your cat's liver and cause disease. Kinda like humans living on McDonald's and Kraft Dinner.

Good luck and all the best.

Rapid changes in food for cats can cause some problems, what you may want to do, is gradually shift back to his old food by mixing some of it in with what you switched him too, then diluting the mixture.

As long as its not a kitten. Kittens need to stay on a high calorie diet consistently because its growing. Your cat should do just fine, especially if its only temporary.

it depends on how sensitive your cats gastro intestinal system is, but often Yes changing between foods rapidly does cause diarrohea/vomiting.
If these occur starve your cat out for 24 hours then reintroduce his normal food.
