When I worked in engineering at a cable TV company (I won't say which) we were curious about Monster cable vs. the coax we had and the fittings. We put the Monster cables through oscilloscopes, load and leak down tests and found NO DIFFERENCE in performance when compared to our cables.
Our conclusion was that with Monster you're only paying for the name, NOT supposed quality.

Well lol 99.9 % of the people in these forums will tell you there is no difference in cables because its a digital signal. First that is not true, the quality of the cable does matter and does effect the picture and sound quality. Now with that said, it also depend on the quality of the system its being hooked up to. Sure on a typical consumer system with lower than average equipment you probably wont see much if any difference. If you have a above average or good system you can see and hear differences. So contrary to what most people will tell you it does make a difference and you'll see allot of negative responces because they "have it in there head" if its digital it makes no difference lol. Ask these people what they have for systems and I can bet its pretty low end stuff. Audio video cables is a big area of debate for many people and i have had this debate with many people and even engineers. The engineer will tell you if I cant measure it it doesn't exist lol. There are many things in audio that are not measurable or have not found a way to measure it, besides our ears and eyes are very sensitive objects and can detect things on a very high level. I have sold some of the very best in home audio video systems, and have always recommended and offered clients to audition in the store and even at home, make my recommendations and then let them make the final determination. I have never had a cable returned to me because they couldn't see or hear the difference, and in most cases they were blown away by the difference the cable made. Another option go and discover your local high end audio video store, and most of these stores will allow you to take the cables home for evaluation on your own system before final purchase. That way you can make your own determination. But lets understand when it comes to video cables, your video display should be properly calibrated to really see an improvement in picture quality. The truly better brands of cables should only be purchased at your local high end audio video store as they truly carry the better brands of cables worth the investment. Kevin 40 years high end audio video specialist Edit: Doug lol. Here again another person saying buy better cables because he's just trying to sell you something and make more money. While that would be true in the chain stores who really don't know what makes a better cable and really don't even sell the better brands of cables worth the investment, there are many audiophiles and video experts who know and have experienced improvements first hand. Like I said cables is a area of serious debate among engineers and others who either have not played around enough with cables or have a good enough system to show the differences. I don't sell systems anymore, but i do still help clients and do high level setup and calibrations of system by request mainly because of my extensive knowledge in high end audio. By the way this Geoff Morrison that your getting all your advice from "is the idiot" sorry to say so be careful who you get your advice from.

Cables are a ridiculous topic because they are SO over priced.
In my opinion Monster makes the best price/performance ratio, but there is a lot to consider.
If you are using a smaller TV (32" - 37") then don't spend a lot on your cables as you will not even be able to see any picture blemishes when you stand back from the screen at normal viewing distance.
I personally have used expensive and cheap cables, and I can't tell a difference between them. If you have a HUGE TV then it might be worth the extra cash to get some decent cables as any defects in the picture will be much larger then on a smaller TV.
My point is: The bigger the TV the bigger the cables.
I know you videophiles are shaking your head, but not everyone likes to open up a Best Buy credit account just to buy cables.
Keep in mind that when you buy really nice cables they tend to last a bit longer then your cheap cables.

i agree . always remember you get what you pay for. and that goes for everything especially for home theatre , tvs and yes cables. if you spent allot on a new tv then why skimp on a very important piece, the cables that will be sending the signal. although if you bought one of the cheap tvs then you bought the cheap cables, then you will get a cheap picture, period.thats the way this stuff works. you say you want the "best possible picture" then im thinking that you are quality oriented and possibly bought a very nice quality hdtv (i hope), then i ask why did you buy the no name cables? if you truly want the best picture you can get then invest in a nice quality name brand tv with great history , and buy your self some good cables. if you are gonna be watching this tv for hours a day and years to come then you want to he very happy with the quality and picture quality, thin its well worth the extra investment of a couple hundred dollars on a better tv and a the extra money for the best cables. it will give you much better picture quality and last you allot longer.

It really depends. Yes there is a difference in brands. Most people would agree that Monster Cable is the best brand out there. However, part of it does depend on your equipment. The difference is most notable on higher end HDTV's. If you have a higher end TV, then drop the coin on Monster Cable. If you have an average to lower end HDTV, then stick with what you have.

I don't remember where I read it but it basically said that HDMI cables are all the same regardless of price. If you can find one for $20, go for it. It is no worse then the one you get $100
