"Shopping", per se, is not a sickness. However, compulsive buying, binge spending and the like could well be a symptom of emotional / mental disorders. When you buy something, you may be "rewarding" yourself or seeking to gratify some emotional need. Any type of compulsive / obsessive behavior should be evaluated by a competent & qualified doctor, therapist, etc.

I hear you sister!! Seriously put down the credit card before your family and friends pull you in for an intervention!! This really can become a problem and if you realize it then you need to take the next step and ask for help from people around you let them know hey I have a problem with this and I need your help and encouragement! You can even seek clinical help for your addiction. This can truly get you into a world of financial troubles too, it's not worth it. Sit down and make a budget and schedule times to shop like once a or twice a month when a really good sale is on and stick to the allowance you set...oh and don't hang out with "shopping buddies" it's the too alluring! Good Luck!

As a former shopalcoholic, if your spending habits jeopardize your finances and make you feel guilty, then it is a problem. There may be something lacking or hurting you in your life for you to overindulge in shopping. Seek councelling before it spins out of control where it damages your credit and your relationships. Seek healthier and cheaper alternatives to shopping. Stay out of the malls! You can conquer this!
Good luck and best wishes!

There is such a thing as being addicted to shopping, it is similar to Internet or gambling addictions. If you feel your shopping habits are having a negative impact on your life or those close to you, I would consider seeing a mental health professional.

yes...it can be. i use to do that. mine stemmed from depression and feeling down. i would spend money to make myself feel better for the moment..but, hardly ever wore the clothes!
you have to figure out what is causing it and fix it! and if you are not planning on buying anything...don't go to the mall. if you do...take a limited amount of cash and leave the credit cards at home!
