Was walking with my dog this evening and a dog that I pass every day came up behind me and bit me and really sank his teeth in. Now I have to have the rabies shots. Sure glad it is not like long ago when they were given in the stomach. I do not know if the dog has had its shots or not and I would not believe the owner if he said it did.

Good advice so far but I live in south east
Asia and there is very little that can be done other than take care of myself.

Yes there are laws here but it takes the police to inforce them and that means they have to be paid to do so. and the amount depends on the standing of the owner of the dog.

I am a foreigner so you should be able to figure that I have very little chance.

You don't just go and get the shots. If the dog bite was reported, and the dog is known, they check for PROOF that the dog is vaccinated, or they quarantine the dog, or euthanize it and test it. Just because you got bit, you do not automatically get the shots.

Why do people omit a KEY part of the information???? I guess you are on your own!!!

If you report this dog bite incident, the police will come and check the dog's vet papers. If he doesn't have any, the dog will be placed in quarantine for usually 10 days to monitor for rabies or other problems. If he shows no rabies, you shouldn't have to go through with the shots.

Call the police - The owner will have to show them proof of vacination. If the dog is not up to date on it's rabies shot, THEN start the series of shots for yourself.

If the dog does not have his shots, the owner will be fined and will have to submit proof of the dog having his shots. If he doesn't comply, the dog will be taken away from him and put down. This could also be a repeat offence, in which case the dog will be put down.
