It wasn't an event. Atheists don't tend to have instant conversions like the Christians seem to.

I converted to atheism gradually over many years of study and introspection. I talked and debated with people of various faiths, and looked into the nature of belief, itself. Eventually, I went from being a Christian, to believing that God was still a possibility, to eventually just admitting to myself that I had no belief in any gods.

It's just that as I learned more about the universe, the less a god made sense in it.

When I became convinced that the Universe is natural that all the ghosts and gods are myths, there entered into my brain, into every drop of my blood, the sense, the feeling, the joy of freedom.

The walls of my prison crumbled and fell, the dungeon was flooded with light and all the bolts, and bars, and manacles became dust.

I was no longer a servant, a serf, or a slave.

There was for me no master in all the wide world not even in infinite space.

I was free.

When I was about 7 or 8. My neighbors didn't celebrate Halloween, because they believed it was the devil's holiday. Anyways, one night after Halloween the girl next door spent the night. I told her that I felt sorry for her because she couldn't celebrate Halloween. She replied that my family and I were going to hell because we did.
I was confused about this and I slowly came to realize that maybe all this Christian stuff was made up. I didn't see anything "bad" about Halloween at all. I loved Halloween sometimes more than Christmas. So I made the decision to not believe in God. Later on I tried to go back to Christ (going to church, praying and all that), but that religion is not for me. Now I am a Dianic Witch and loving every second!

I studied the enlightenment at university and read the works of Voltaire-from that point on my doubts about theology and God became complete rejection of belief.

Never. God exists, and is with me.
