First of all, do you want to quit smoking or already have but failed? If so then you should keep trying and maybe find alternative ways that will work for you and make it easier to do.

If not, it could depend on how much you smoke. But really, I believe that there isn't anything to avoid cancer apart from smoking less? How is your health at the moment? All of these things could help or make it harder and maybe impossible.

Hope this helped a bit

SusieQ is trying some weird rationalization that her smoking isn't going to hurt her, but it is. Estimates place the deadliest cancer in the US, lung cancer at about 98% of cases due to smoking. I see people everyday who pretend to have asthma when they really have emphysema from their years of smoking. Tobacco abuse impacts everyone differently, but the effect is always negative. You can eat all the veggies you want and it will be a drop in the bucket compared
to what you could do by stopping smoking. Lung cancer is the easy one. You die fairly quickly. Stroke and heart attack are much more likely to kill you and are much more common than lung ca. Estimates claim that one fifth the number of physicians would be needed in the US if no one had ever smoked.

If true research were conducted as to the causes of cancer I'm sure that is would come out that genetics and predisposition would be the hands down winner. I also beleive that food additives as well as the wrong types of food are factors for development of abnormal genetic growth. People eat too much meat and not enough vegetables...just for one example. Human growth hormones added to everything have caused evolutionary changes to the overall body structures of our species. I have smoked for 35 years and still have clear lungs according to last months x-rays. My family on both sides are all smokers of long standing and there has never been a case of cancer in our history. We DO however eat right and exercise properly.
