I want to buy a Golden Retriever puppy so that I can train it properly and get it used to children ( I have two children.)

I want a pedigreed one so that I know that it doesn't have any problems.before I start.

Go to www.the-kennel-club.org.uk and search on their database for an approved breeder in Wales or local county.
Please be very careful about ads in papers etc. There is a historic problem with puppy kennels in Wales and many puppies are from terrible conditions - their mothers are kept in kennels with little or no human contact.
As you have children, your ideal pup will be one raised with a family . The key thing to ask for is to see the mother of the puppies with the puppies. Don't accept any excuses. Any genuine and good breeder with be more than happy for this to happen and will show you other relatives too! Take your children to visit the breeder and pups and you will clearly see how all the adult dogs and your children get on with each other. You will get a good idea of how your pup will turn out.
Ask to see the pedigree papers of the puppies and the KC papers of the mother at least, when you visit. The KC paper will have the information of the mothers 'hip score' and other tests for genetic problems. You can then see proof of the quality of the puppy's parents and be assured that you are getting a good specimen.
Golden Retrievers are an excellent breed for families - good choice! You should expect to pay around 300 GBP for your pup.

A pedigree is not a guarantee!

Many 'pure-bred' dogs suffer from inherited problems because their breeders have not taken care to ensure that they have used the best available breeding stock.

What you should be searching for is a reputable breeder who is well-known and well respected in the dog world.

The breed ring and field trials are the showcase for the breeders and anyone breeding dogs with known problems soon finds that their fellow breeders will not use their stud dogs or buy their puppies.

Take your time to find the right person. Try the breed website, the Kennel Club site and buy some dog magazines and do your research. Don't agree to buy a pup from the first litter you view - check the breeder out first.

You might also consider getting a dog from the Golden Retriever Rescue. Many dogs end up needing to be re-homed through no fault of their own. You might find one that is already good with children and trained or part- trained.

But remember -dogs are dogs - they don't come with guarantees of either health or temperament no matter how careful you are.

Your lucky, the finest Golden Retrievers in the world are not all that far from you.
You will want to look for a listing for Mrs J Atkinson (the grand old lady of Golden retrievers) Holway kennels

There is no guarantee when buying any animal that it won't have problems in the future. but if you are sensible you can minimise those risks. If you go through one of the breed clubs, you are far more likely to find a reputable breeders who will have carried out all the necessary health checks before breeding.
The site below will give you plenty of useful information.
Good Luck

a pedigree is not a guarantee of health. Top show bred retrievers can be crippled with hip displaysia or go blind from PRA. I think you need to do a lot more research on the breed, find out what health issues they suffer from and learn what sort of questions you need to be asking breeders to ascerytain whether their stock is healthy or not.
What you are asking is a bit like saying that you want a car with car tax on it as you want to make sure the car is roadworthy.
