Christians tend to pick and choose what parts of their religion they follow. In the New Testament, Jesus set that example by picking and choosing which parts of the Old Testament to follow.
To be fair, though, it would be impossible to follow all the rules in the Bible, because they are contradictory. God is a moving target as far as rules are concerned.

I'm Catholic, and for Catholics, people who obtain a civil divorce are still married in the Church's eyes. Therefore, they cannot marry again.
Some divorced Catholics remarry -- but that's only after the Church declares an annulment.
An annulment is not a divorce -- an annulment is a formal declaration that, for some reason, the marriage was never valid in the first place.
In the Gospels, Jesus is quoted as saying that divorcing one spouse and marrying another is adultery -- but you forgot the part where He said "unless the marriage was unlawful."
Therefore, the Catholic Church's teachings on marriage and divorce are right in line with what Jesus said about them in the Gospels.
As for non-Catholic Christians, and what their churches teach about these things, I can't speak to that. You'd have to ask one of them.

Good questions.
Jesus also gave the church authority to Bind and loose.
Some people have Nazi like teachings that this verse only means to sin and repentance.
but a closer look at marriage and divorce shows that divorce is a form of righteousness. And the adultery definition applies to the ONEs that commit adultery before the divorce is given rigteousness.
Jesus rebuked the lawyers for asking him about marriage and sequential husbands. Saying They KNOW not the scriptures.
Some men are never married and yet it is written they will be married despite the verse which says in the resurrection there is no marriage.
Some wives will be taken from some men and given to others as well.
you also must realize that many men in israel died and left their wives to "REST" of Israel to continue raising up righteous seed. in one battle alone 70 thousand men died and many of them had to be taken care of either by the government or by their family or by those that can be called "brethren".
so if plural marriage is also ordained by prophets of God, there is a distinction between adultery and plural marriage.
however it is just as evil, if not criminal for a wife to divorce her husband and get child custody if she rape the father economically and remarry. It is a sin of infidelity if the husband does not provide for his own. at the same time.

There is only 1 scriptural basis for divorce, which is infidelity. If you divorce on those grounds, then the victim is free to marry, but the adulterer is not. At least some of the people who are divorced are in the right.

Its not the unpardonable sin. As with any sin it is forgivable. The only sin not forgivable is disbelief. We are saved by grace. Grace through faith. Not by the works of the law. The law was given to show us we could not attain salvation on our own. This is why we need Jesus Christ. Through him we are justified before God.
On another note, Jesus did say that if a spouse committed sexual immorality then you were allowed to divorce.
People have such a screwed up view of christianity. Why not pick up a bible and read it for yourself?
Try the New Living Translation. Very readable.

Yes you're correct. Yes you have committed adultery if you date or marry a divorced person is a sin both of you.
Yes they are all broken if you break one because no sin is smaller than the other.
Yes it was the ten commandments were written by God himself.
Yes it makes a lot of firewood.

Good question! Are you a Christian? If so, do you now see how hypocritical Christians are. They pick and choose what they want to live by. Doesn't this also makes you wonder why Christians are so anti-gay and lesbian marriages when their marriages are shambles. If what you quote is true what is the difference between them and gays and lesbians?
My marriage ended when a Catholic priest took my wife from me. He is a still a priest. Makes one wonder!!!

The only thing that Jesus said about divorce is "It was not so in the times of Adam" He who has ears , let him hear.

Everyone has sinned and Jesus paid the penalty for all sins that were or will be committed. He freely offers it to all that will accept salvation. It's an easy choice.
