Red wine is one of the best as it has lower GI and full of antioxidants.
Instead of drinking a full glass of champagne, mix 1/2 glass with Orange Juice.
For beer, try drink beer which has lower carbs...
For spirits, ask to mixed with Diet Coke or Diet Cranberry instead of regular one. Plus ask for more ice so you drink less alcohol.

I've been doing some research on this as i am slimming for my wedding....
Stick to clear spirits such as bacardi or vodka, mixed with a diet mixer
Stay away from alcopops and lager/beer
Have you tried Quinns? It's a new alcohol fruit based drink from Diageo and it is gorgeous! The fruit is fermented to create the alcohol, it's not mixed with vodka or wine or anything. It has 70 calories per bottle and very little fat - if you are on the weightwatchers points scheme, they are probably about 1 1/2 points - brilliant!

Alcohol in its most pure form is actually high in calories, considering the amount.
It depends what your drinking and how much of it.
Liqueurs, like Baileys, will be high in fat and calories because of the cream in them.
Hard liquor will generally have 70 - 120 calories in a single shot glass.
Also, studies have shown that your body's ability to metabolize food after drinking significantly slows down because of the way alcohol acts on the body. "Beer belly" is not necessarily from the beer, but from the food you consume while drinking beer (which is generally very high in fat and calories) that gets stored as fat and isn't metabolised.
If you're trying to lose weight and still want to drink, stick with simple mixers. DIET soda mixed with vodka, rum or whiskey.
Avoid things like Sour Puss, as they also contain lots of sugar to flavour them.
Try http://www.drinksmixer.com/ - you can check calories in your drink down to the exact brand.

The very idea is contradictory, as alcohol is the fermentation of natural and man made sugars. Starches in grain, potatoes, sugar cane etc. No, it is not ok to drink if you are trying to slim, unless you are a hard core alcoholic and that' s all you do is drink and not eat, then you'll still lose weight.

Drink IS empty calories....
Lets put it this way, when I did weightwatchers I was allowed 17points.... And a bottle of wine would have been EIGHT points!! Nearly half! And its not unheard of me to occasionally have 2 bottles on a night out! (i know, tragic times)
So drinking REALLY is a waste of calories BUT if you HAVE to have a drink a G&T is your best best or any white spirit with a DIET coke!
Good luck!

Beers and lagers are very fattening (hence the term 'beer-belly'). Spirits and wines are better, but are still a bit fattening. eg. a bag of chips contains 1200kcal. You would need to drink 6 alcopops to have the same amount.

All alcohol by its nature is carbohydrate and therefore fattening however vodva has little carbohydrate coming from elsewhere and if mixed with a diet drink will be the least fattening drink.

try Quinn's or vodka with a diet mixer - personally I cant shift the weight even when really restricting what I drink - mind and save your points(Weightwatchers) or checks(Scottish Slimmers) before you go out otherwise it defeats the purpose
