Yes dogs ARE color blind, they see in two colors instead of three exactly the same as some color blind people. The difference between a dogs eyes and ours is that a dog has fewer cones (collect color) and more rods (collect light) so a dog sees colors about like a color blind person, and sees at night about like a person using night vision goggles.
We see "VIBGYOR" (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange, Red)
dogs see "VIBYYYR" (Violet, Indigo, Blue, Yellow, Yellow, Yellow, and Red). The colors Green, Yellow, and Orange all look alike to dogs

ALL dogs are "full blooded." there is no way to be aware of until you had professional "papers" on the canine or the litter. There is only one "Pit" and that's the American Pit Bull Terrier. As others have mentioned, handiest the Merle coloration on an APBT will not be accepted. Many white Pit Bulls may have spots. Mine is white with pink epidermis, and pink spots. Some have black spots.

The "experts" have decided that they fall somewhere inbetween. They dont see full color, and not totally in Black and white. Give it a few years the "experts" will change their minds again! LOL

Dogs see in black and white.... if you want to know why this is probbably because: even though dogs are mammals like us, they have different traits..... which probably could change the way they see things. Hope this helps!

the main function of the dog's eyes is to notice minimal movement, especially in dim light, & then to concentrate on it intently.
lateral vision is more important than color, hence their angle of vision is wider (250- 290 degree).human's eye view is 210 degree.
dogs can distinguish between yellow & blue, but they see prodominantly in shades of grey.

I have heard from some where that they did study on it and decided that dogs can see colour but don't put it in the same perspective as we do.
