Well i've been through stages of thinking i am and thinking i'm not but here are some of the things that make me think i am:
I either feel cold and empty or exilerated and happy.
When i'm with my friends, i find it very hard to control what i say and do, i'm a constant irritation to them, and every morning i look into the mirror and say to myself "You will be calm and centred today" but end up acting like a jackass, and saying things i really dont want to say.
I have constant bouts of paranoia where i think there are cameras watching me.
my sleeping patterns are highly irregular.
I am a chronic liar, and tell horrible lies, like i tell people ive taken drugs, when i know they wont approve, and i really want their approval.
I have episodes, where i tear up all my collegework for no reason.
I have self harmed for no particular reason.
I do stupid things like staying at complete strangers houses overnight.
I go out and buy expensive things and then dont use them.
Any thoughts?

I don't know if you have ever seen a psychiatrist or not, but you should make an appointment. The symptoms you are experiencing could be several different things. One of the main symptoms of bipolar disorder (manic depression) is major mood swings. Many people say it is like "flipping a switch." There are two different phases that you go through: depressive and manic.
In a depressive phase you would feel "cold and empty." Things you used to enjoy, you don't anymore. You may feel anxious or guilty and you may sleep and/or eat all of the time or not at all.
In a manic phase you may feel very energetic or very irritable. People in manic episodes sometimes take very big risks including tearing up important papers for no reason or going on huge shopping sprees buying things that you don't need or really want. People may become very talkative, make big plans and set unrealistic goals for themselves. Some people also are very irritable and have racing thoughts (when your thoughts go around and around and they won't stop). People generally don't need much sleep during a manic phase.
The swings between these two phases can happen several times in one day to going weeks between phases.
The good news is that bipolar disorder is very treatable. With the proper medication, you can get your life back. Something that you must remember. Only you can take care of yourself. Only you can get your life back. Going to a psychiatrist is your first step. You won't believe the difference in your life and the lives of those around you. Take it from someone who knows, if you don't do anything about it, you will regret it. I lost 16 years of my life to depression and anxiety and now I'm a counselor. Good luck and God Bless!

I think it would be in your best interest to seek counseling or some other medical advice. But from the sounds of it, I believe you could be bipolar (manic depressant)
My mother is bipolar. She went through the sleeping for days and hating herself phase and then she thought she was like superwoman, moving furniture and things around for no reason. she went on shopping trips, spending money she didn't really have and on things no one needed. She always thought someone was following her and trying to kill her. She would talk about people no one knew, and come up with stories that made no sense at all. Sometimes she would just keep talking jibberish for hours to whoever was around, or call people and do this. (especially annoying when I was at work) She would go outside in the snow in her underwear and decorate the trees with utensils. Then after a few years of this B.S., she turned violent. She tried to slit my throat, she attempted to shove my aunt into the kitchen sink, to send her through the garbage disposal, she threw my grandfather down a flight of stairs and locked my daughter in the basement telling her the crows outside were circling because they wanted to eat her. We had to call 911 and have her taken away. She is in a mental institution now taking medication. She still has her weird stories and paranoia, but she's getting better.
I suggest you get help and maybe start on some meds before you hit rock bottom like she did. Good luck and God bless. If you need to talk, contact me.

The symptons you describe could fit a number of mental health issues. Yes, bi-polar could be one of them. You also could have impulse control issues and have a personality disorder. You could be clinically depressed. All sound so ominous but with proper medical/psychological attention your life would become managable and you will be so much more happy and content. Seek out the medical help at a mental health center or see your family doctor. Be totally straight with him/her, if you don't feel they "heard" you then seek a second opinion. Don't give up on yourself.

I don't know how old you are, so I will be very gentle. It sounds like you probably are bi polar and I think you already know that. My mother and husband are bi polar and I definitely have tendencies too. you are not to blame. It is just a disease like diabetes or alzheimers. contact National Institute of Mental Health (Nami) in your area to help you and your family understand how your brain functions. If you are diagnozed, take medecine, it will help you and all those who love you. My husband does not take medecine, and life without it is impossibly painful. there is hope for you, and you will be fine as long as you start to do more research and understand your brain chemistry. good luck

It takes professionals litereally years to come up with an official diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder (though they can begin treating it when they first see you). They take a look at your "ups" and "downs" over short periods (hour to hour, day to day) and long periods (week to week, month to month), and they know the specific differences between Bipolar and other disorders that may have similar symptoms. I would strongly recommending going to a professional to find out.

if you have a lot of stress in your life, you could just have severe depression, and with mania/anxiety... it is common in life to feel overwhelmed and freak out over a lot of stuff. thinking too much just in itself can make you feel stressed. you may be doing too much, school, friends, going out. etc... try to simplify your life and focus on you. get your life in check, try some natural herbs for relaxing your mind or go to doc for an anxiety pill to help you calm down. buying things is a definite sign of depression, it is a way to make you feel like you have things that are important to you. i did that for years... go to doc, or try some natural meds i am listing... "5htp" helps to balance your seratonin in your brain, and relaxes you. "blueberry leaf" helps depression and helps you focus more on your life and memory. "flaxseed oil" helps with depression and moods
any other questions, email me
i will help you as much as i can
