Yes, there is global warming. It has been going on since the end of the last ice age. Contrary to popular opinion, however, it is NOT traceable to human causes: the Martian polar ice caps are shrinking faster than ours, Mars is farther from the sun, and Mars does not have ANY of the human factors that are assumed to be causing global warming. We are in a warm period between ice ages - that's all. It isn't the first time for this planet, and it won't be the last.

Yup it's warming up. The planet has been through numerous heating and cooling cycles for billions of years now. The debate is whether or not human activity has anything to do with the current warming trend.
The "hip" thing is to believe that it's caused by industrialism and use of fossil fuels. Others will say that humans only control 1% of the world's carbon, pointing out that volcanism alone naturally emits more greenhouse gasses than the human race has in its history.
What's sad is that there is an compete lack of objective reasoning on the part of the environmentalists for this issue. They are selective as to what facts they use to support their points. A dirty secret, for instance, is that there was a significant cooling trend from the turn of the last century, up until the early 1960's. This was a period of MASSIVE industrialization with no environmental restrictions. You tend to get an illogical/emotional response from environmentalists when you point out facts like this and ask them to explain it.
Politicians such as Al Gore have ZERO credibility on this issue. He had business ventures that were environmentally FILTHY and claims to be a champion of the environment. He expects us to wear fig leaves and live in grass huts, while he rides around in a limousine. "Do as I say, not as I do" may works for kids, but not for adults.

Read Michael Crichton's "State Of Fear" for an excellent novel based on environmental issues. See also "Myths, Lies, And Downright Stupidity" by John Stossel for more interesting discussion on these issues and others.
