They tend to actively promote anti-theism rather than straightforward disbelief-some sites however are focused on refuting philosophical arguments for the existence of God etc.

There are many that try, but inevitably the religious invade and attempt to conquer. The resulting battle to drive them away to preserve the site for atheists will leave an anti-religiion stain on it.

I like the Internet Infidels and Positive Atheism sites. They keep a positive note, and invite any and all to participate. They favor none, so the evangelicals are usually trounced by the weight of reason and do not have the mods on their side to silence the opposition if they start to lose (like on the Baptist Board...).

When a website is all about atheism then it can be only anti-religious. Of course atheists can make a website that is not anti-religious, but when atheism as such is on the top of their agenda this is just opposition to religion.

When atheism isn't being anti-religion its not really being anything, is it? Thats the problem. Atheism isn't a religion or a system of beliefs - its just NOT believing in God.

If you want to read about morals and such that aren't from the bible (and no moral person gets their morals from the bible) then you'd be better off searching for secular humanism.

Nobody can fight against religion. Religion is the divine school of the One True God for the establishment of world peace. Various Websites use scientific knowledge to legitimately fight against superstitions, prejudices, fanaticism, dogmatism, ignorance, poverty, slavery... which are true enemies of all mankind.
Science and religion will go hand in hand in building a global community, where all mankind live in peace, prosperity and progress.

Why would they bother? Without religion and God to inveigh against it is most likely that they have nothing else in sufficient commonality to warrant putting up a web site for atheists.

Not that I know of. If the religions would all go away, there wouldn't be much point in discussing atheism.

The old " common enemy draws us together" works on both sides.

To promote the idea they must destroy the enemy.

Try individual's bio rather than web sites

That depends on your definition of "anti-religion," I think of them mostly as being "pro-honesty!"
