I dont know about poodles, but my son had allergies to everything but penicillin and one type of tree. We have two Chinese Crested one hairless and one full coat and he does just fine with them. I have never had him around a poodle. Good luck in your search! I left a link to the Chinese Crested Rescue. The Crested is the only toy dog registered with the AKC as good with children

Poodles are actually on the list of dogs that are *better* for people with alergies. They don't have a double layer coat like many breeds and tend to produce less dander, which is usually what people are alergic to.
Here is the list:

Bichon Frise
Bichon/Yorkie
Bolognese
Border Terrier
Bouvier des Flandres

Chinese Crested (hairless)
Cockapoo
Coton De Tulear
Doodleman Pinscher
Giant Schnauzer
Hairless Khala

No breed is allergy free. Poodles are great dogs-I grew up with one, they don't shed much but require grooming every 4-6 weeks. They are "better" on allergies than some dogs but if you want one that will not cause any reaction that is not likely to happen. Also, try a skin test for allergies-I have always assumed I am allergic to my pets-turns out I am not but I am very allergic to dust mites!

I agree totally with what everybody is saying. Talk both with a vet and a doctor before getting a dog. What is great, it that if you are totally committed to getting your child a dog, there are allergy pills out there that help with dog allergies that you would take like if you had any other type of allergies. I have a cousin that LOVES dogs and his Doc gave them to him. And there are shampoos for dander to help. Also there are a wide range of dogs out there that you can get that are more hypoallergenic to fit your lifestyle. Not into the coat maintenance of a poodle, try an italian greyhound. Many many options, just talk to your doc and vet!

Different people have different reactions to the same breed. The only way to tell if your daughter will be OK is to find an understanding breeder who will allow your daughter to spend a fair amount of time with the dogs to see if she reacts to them

My Dad used to have asthma and he got a chihuahua. His asthma was greatly reduced. He got a second one and his asthma went away for ever. I don't know how well that would work with allergies but I believe that chihuahua do absorb some of the conditions around them.

Breeds better for people with dog allergies: http://www.akc.org/news/index.cfm?article_id=2588
But PLEASE consult her doctor BEFORE getting a dog, or one more dog will end up at the shelter - not fair to the dog, and traumatic to your daughter.
