There's a lot of info posted at www.wikipedia.com. It looks like 10% of cases are "familial" so that may be what the insurance ppl are wanting to rule out. If you make an appt with a neurologist, s/he can get you tested - I know it's scary (I have a diff but similar disease), and it's also important to do, because look at it this way - either you find out you DON'T have it, which of course is great news; or you find out you do and that gives you time to come to terms with it and do whatever you need to prepare yourself/your family/your home etc, which is a lot better than having it sneak up on you. But do have someone else go with you to the neurologist - someone who can support you no matter what and who can drive you; it's very stressful and you'll be glad to have them there. Also be prepared to have tests done one day and then have to go back a second time to get your results. Finally, whether or not you have it, look for a support group that can help answer your questions and point you towards help in understanding and coping with the disease your father has. You can ask a neurologist for local support group contact info, or if that doesn't work then try an online search. The MDA (muscular dystrophy association) is also a great source of info and patient support, not only for people with MD but with many different neuropathies.

Best wishes to you and your dad --

He probably wouldn't be able to get insurance and if he did I imagine it be phenomenally expensive and wouldn't cover any illness or treatment related to his condition . . . at least here in the UK he is covered for any care he needs. And can always choose to pay privately if he wants anything extra. And RayHere is talking boll0cks as usual. Hannan is just a rich snob who has no understanding of what life is like for people who don't earn six figure salaries. It took a REAL man, like Aneurin Bevan, who had worked his way up from the bottom and understood how life was for the less fortunate, to give us the NHS. I have no respect for Hannan, self serving little traitor that he is who sucks so much US-Republican d*ck his jaw must be aching. But Bevan is my all-time Welsh Hero!!!
