god i feel for you coz im quitting too

was not able to go cold turkey straight away so i just cut down these last few days and i havent had one yet today

it is so hard i no but u just have to look past the short term difficulties and look at the long term benfits!

if u start thinking u cant do it u probably wont! just do it one day at a time, just think how proud u will be of urself when u get in to bed one night and realise u havent had a cig all day! that would be a great feeling!

the very best of luck to you, its the best thing u can do for your body!

xx

I've quit smoking tobacco

Firstly, you have to REALLY want to quit.

Assuming your head is in the right place, be prepared by having a substitute ready when the urge strikes. I smoked something that wasn't tobacco at those times but gum or a snack or whatever suits you best can work.

I credit a large part of my success by having an unopened pack of cig. at hand as well. I guess this helped me feel secure, should the urge overwhelm me.

The first day was the hardest so go to sleep early that day.

Gradually it became easier until the desire reached it's minimum after about a week. Then it's relatively easy because the physical addiction is gone. However, I don't think the mental desire ever goes away ... even today I'm sure I would just love to smoke one but I remind myself of how nice it is to feel healthier and not be a slave to the demon.

Hello, I gave up last month.. Not easy at all!! I went to the gym and worked out really hard! I carried and still do a bottle of water to sip all the time!! The first 24 hours is the hardest then it gets better every day! Every morning you wake up and don't smoke it is a victory!! You can feel realyl good about yourself when you are not smoking and people are standing out in the cold smoking.. Yeah the temper is a bit quicker than normal but you will get better!!! Just find something to do and change your routeene.... Good luck hon..x

day 2 is the worst get thru that and you are over the first hurdle , the next is the 2 week mark ,whatever you need to do to get there, do it ,whether it be eating, drinking, nicotine replacement do it. you can make all the excuses in the world to weaken and have a smoke , but you are only kidding yourself , Oh no the global warming worries me i need a *** , what rubbish. Face your cravings and enjoy the mixed emotions of withdrawl , self denial and non gratification . Beat that self gratification thru denying yourself . It will make you a stronger person than those weak minded people that cant stop

I quit smoking about 9 months ago , I bought the nicotine gum and used it for about a week and it really did help a little , not alot but a little. As far as the anger and mood swings that come with the withdrawel I guess thats just part of it because I got mean and grumpy and acted crazy sometimes. Just find things to do to occupy your time , things you dont relate to smoking , I bought a guitar and learned how to play , ask all your friends who smoke and dont smoke for support in helping you try and live a healthy life , and best of all good luck.

Hi, I stopped smoking a month ago today. I still get the odd urge for a cigarette but it is easy to ignore. It's much easier to give up that you think. I ate raw carrots every time I wanted a cigarette, I also came on Yahoo answers to ask for help and support and both those things helped. You'll have more money, feel good about yourself - strength of character, willpower etc. and of course, last but not least, you'll be healthier and reduce your risk or stroke or heart attack. Good luck - you CAN do it!

I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.

Read Alan Carr's book. He is quite good at making you realise that you are not giving anything up, but gaining the ability to breathe properly again, and smell nice. I know this helped me feel better about the stress I was feeling. About the short term anger management problems, walk away, chew gum (normal gum) and think about how good you are going to feel. It does get easier, and it does go away. Keep trying!

quitting smoking is one of the hardest things to do beside loosing weight. I have been smoke free for 5 yrs...I quit cold turkey and I think the most important factor in quitting smoking is the "I want to quit smoking" that means you have to want to quit and can't be for any other reason beside health...Yes you will get depressed and irrated, but that is when you find your hobby for me it was running and weightlifting, it was my outlet, and you will find yourself in a better light. ALSO...if you don't mind waking up in the middle of the night trying to catch your breath and when you talk you sound like "Marge Simpson" KEEP ON SMOKIN! ..~J~

Find something to do that requires you pay a lot of attention. Do your spring cleaning, and clean out everything. Scrub your walls and floors, flip your mattress', wear yourself out. And stay away from people who smoke for about 3 weeks or so.
