With new body styles on cars, it's kind of hard to really bargin them down at all. Just don't go in and offer like 15k on a 20k car. They wouldn't take you seriously.
But to actually answer your question, yes, there is some room to get the price lower. in March, we bought a 06 beetle with package 1 automatic, sticker price 19,500, for 17,100. that's less than a plain beetle with a stick.
Just be willing to walk away and make 2 or 3 trips to the dealership.

Go to www.edmunds.com. There you can make up a car the way you want it. It will give you info on the sticker price as well as the wholesale price.

Print out the estimate on your vehicle. Contact several dealers and ask them all to give you a price. If you get the car half way between the retail and wholesale prices, you will be doing good.

You can also access Kelley Blue Book, on the Internet, for pricing information.

People who get big savings off of sticker prices are buying left over models that no one else wants. Since 2007 is just starting, you won't find any low-priced leftover 2007 Rabbits.

A word of caution: people often get new car fever. You don't have to buy a new car. You will save money if you buy a used car. Or you can try www.leasetrader.com. There you can take over the lease on a car. If you like it, you can buy it at the end of the lease.

Bargain away. In fact the invoice they show you is a fake. Most dealerchips mark up the original invoice to make greater profits. Look for the factory seal if its the real one. You can usually expect them to come off a few thousand if your knowledgable.

You can bargain at most dealers. The most notable exception is Saturn.

first of all, dealers think that women are stupid... either know your stuff with a quick tongue or take a man who does. and yes the price can be negotioated, my dad got about$6000 taken off the new car he just bought.... it can be done.
