I believe you are asking about genuine windows poducts. If they are not genuine (or do not pass the windows genuine advantage check) then you cannot update the programs, so in that respect, yes it is beneficial to use genuine windows products. If you do not care whether or not you have the latest security and software updates, then it doesn't matter because your computer will eventually need to be reformatted and reinstalled anyways.

You mean the Windows that came with your computer?

Yes, your computer was designed to work with the version that came with it. Let's say that your computer came with Windows ME. That means that you got and Paid for the license to use that system. You probably have the RESTORE disk with that system too.

It just might work with Windows 2000. It might work with Windows XP if you add some memory. (you need 512MB) But you would have to buy the new Windows installation disks. To restore this upgraded system MIGHT mean that you would have to restart the RESTORE by installing the original system again, then using the new Upgrade CD that you bought. This could take many hours to rebuild your system.

If you need more memory, check your system at http://www.coastmemory.com

Good luck and Happy Computing!

Windows software, that is such a broad area to ask. They make all kinds of software. To use Windows anything is really not "benefactory", but it will do for the average user..

If your a regular user I would say yes use the software that came with the machine. If you want to use it as a web server or in a place with heavy traffic. Which is unusual then go for linux fedora or slax type OS.
