If you want to bulk up your muscles, you should work out with weights that tax your limits. Do slow reps with the most weight you can handle safely. Rest every other day.

The object is to tear the muscles slightly. Then allow them time to heal. This will strengthen them.

Always drink plenty of water (not soda, no beer) and this keeps you hydrated and helps your body heal itself.

Every night and you will see really noticible results in about 4 weeks (assuming you havnt got a lot of excess body fat);
