great answers , but i would say it depends on your particular situation. what size you want. how much glare you have in the room, what your primary use of the tv is. and what your budget is.
-it has been proven that plasmas produce more naturall color.and the clearest most detailed picture. although new lcds are coming very close like samsung and sony ( i hate them) they have very excellent pictures for lcds but i would choose a plasma any day.most of the people who say lcd dont really know much about them just that they are the new popular ones./ the only down sides to plasmas are that they are alittle hevier that lcds and use more energy and get warmer.also they have a high glare screen. while it makes the picture look awesome if you have allot of windows in your room aor alot of glare then you will see allot of glare on the screen. most people who say plasmas will burn out or have to be recharged after a few years really dont know what they are talking about. unless they had a personal experience or has worked witha them for along time would i trust there answers. the lcds look like crap on any thing but high def. and look grainy on fast moving pictures. but they have no glare , are light, and dont use that much energy.but i usually buy a tv for the picture quality. cause well thats what they are made for. and to me plasmas definetly have that. but make sure you get a name brand one , nomatter what you buy. i would go panasonic( they are my #1 ) , hitachi, samsung, philips, toshiba, sony ( ill) , anything less is just cheap. and remember you get what you pay for.

i have a 42 inch plasma , touch wood its been good , ive had it for 2 1/2 years . my computer monitor is lcd 17 inch and thats fine as well , if you like a plasma look at the review of that tv same as lcd

LCDs are better but Plasmas are cheaper. You can get a brand new 42 in plasma from this site I found where all you have to do is enter in your email address. You can also choose the brand you want. LCDs run cooler compared to Plasma TVs because Plasma TVs have to superheat the gas inside to turn it to plasma.
So you could say Plasma TVs are so hot, they're cool!

up to 42" lcd are far better. above this some people say plasma have a slight edge. if you intend gaming on it avoid plasma. the best on the market at present is the sony bravia range.

Go to CNET.COM and read the latest reviews on this subject. there is lot of new information out there. Plasma TVs have come a long way to being equal with LCD's.

LCD....Plasma will only last about two to three years and the gas in them will go. Then you'll need to get it repaired.

LCDs as they have a clearer picture and a longer lifespan than Plasmas.

LCDs have more reliability and cost less to repair....
Plasmas have ONE PURPOSE....to hang on a wall.
If you need it to hang on a wall, choose Plasma.
Any other situation the LCD is best to fill that bill
