The Mouse is right, the things MBK shopping centre has are inexpensive. And the variety does run the gamut, you can grocery shop for food, shop for toiletries, clothes(blouses, skirts, dresses, jeans, t-shirts, underwear), cameras, cell phones and phone service, Ipods, other electronics, souvenirs, furniture, sit down food, jewelry, cd's, toys, thai handicrafts, backpacks, bags, purses, luggage, etc. Almost anything you can think of. I think one of the great things about MBK is convenience. It's at the National Stadium station of the BTS Skytrain, a 5 minute walk at most. It is clean well kept mall.

The Siam malls, Paragon, Discovery and Center are nicer and glitzier but, don't have the product selection that MBK has. They have all the "name" brand items but, at US prices. Like why shop there at all. And most Thai people don't buy there because it is soooo expensive to the average Thai person. There is also the updated Central World Plaza and the Emporium which are also newer and gliztier and have the nice shops. They still do not compare to what the average traveler can find in MBK.

Like I wrote, you cannot be at the convenience of being at the end of the Silom line of the BTS Skytrain. I usually stay when I visit at the Emerald Hotel on Ratchadapisek Road near Sutthisan. It can take me about 30 minutes by subway and Skytrain to get there. The first few times I went to MBK, cause my now girlfriend, wanted to meet there since it was close to her work. I toook a taxi there, 45 minutes to over one hour to get there. Since I started to take the Subway and Skytrain. Not a problem. I can be most anywhere in downtown Bangkok within one hour without worrying about being late.

Oh yeah, I guess I never mentioned it. It's the mall I would most likely go to look for clothes, or souvenirs. I spent 2 hours last trip looking for things on it's 8 floors last November.

Good luck.

Prices range from very expensive up to unbelievably expensive. It's currently the most prestigious and fashionable mall for the upper class. Want to buy a Lamborghini? You probably find an original there. The top three of most expensive malls are: 1- Gaysorn Plaza. Actually a white graveyard, hardly a soul there. But many prestigious brands have a shop as a kind of embassy there. 2- Siam Paragon. Currently the number one mall. 3- The Emporium. Big mall, used to be the most fashionable mall until Siam Paragon opened. In those three malls you won't find anything cheap. Not even in the foodcourt.

MBK is huge (5 floors) and filled with everything under the sun ! Its well priced and there are many shops selling similar items so the prices are very competitive. Most people get clothes, shoes and jewelry in MBK and on the upper floors you get cell phone, DVDs and games

Cheap! MBK is fabulous. Of course, there are expensive things (as the users above noted, real brand names, real jewelry, etc...though you could get a convincing knockoff of any of it somewhere in the same mall ;-)), but generally, it's cheap. Easy to find, but it's *huge* and a maze inside, so beware if you're short on time! I got bought of my Christmas gifts at MBK - and I think a good percentage of the ones given me were also perchased there. ;-)

It is cheap - but of course it depends on what you are buying. There are outlets in there which has genuine brand names goods as well. But generally - it is CHEAP and you can get just about ANYTHING : clothes, jewelry, shoes, DVD movies, mobile phones, digital goods, food, food and more clothes, fashion accessories, massages, camera, more food, Thai handicraft, homeware, furniture, medicine, more clothes.... I think you get the point.
