None. the breed was always called a German Shepherd, until the First World War when Germany was so hated in England they changed lots of German names so they were more neutral, eg German Shepherd became Alsatian, German biscuit became Empire biscuit. Both names are acceptable but German Shepherd is the standard name.

Absolutely no difference whatsoever, they were called Alsatian during the 2 world wars because any reference to anyone owning anything German was enough to cause that person a lot of trouble!
They are NOT 2 different breeds as someone has said, Alsatians aren't short haired and German Shepherds long haired as I so often am told! They are one and the same!!!!

Although most people have already answered German Shepherd is the correct name. Alsatian came from the war when English didn't want to be connected with the German so they called them Alsatian. They are one of the same dog.

I think they are two names for the same dog. Check with the American Kennel Club

EDIT: Yes. Alsatian is an old name for a German Shepherd

no difference. they are the same breed. The name was originally german shepherd dog, then during the war due to anti german feelings, it was changed in the UK to 'alsatian', then in the 1980's it was changed back again to German shepherd dog.

None. The Alsans were a region of Germany. These were occupied by the French following both World Wars and are now a part of France. Even though the locals are French, they speak German.

German Shepherds/Alsations origiinate from this region.
