The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a fitness calculator that you can put on your cell phone and computer. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as white potatoes) and drink lots of water.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/p...

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with excellent resistance training routines that will not get you bored is "Muscle and Fitness". Signup for the free newsletter.

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. Email me if you want a good indoor air purifier recommendation and if you have other questions.

She is only 12, so she should not be encouraged to use any kind of "quick fix" medication or things of that sort. There is no way to lose weight fast while still being healthy - especially if she is looking to lose 85 lbs. in a week! Even 15 lbs. in a week is very unlikely. She needs to eat properly and exercise. The weight did not go on in a week and it won't come off that way. Her parents should take her to their family doctor and have he/she monitor the weight loss. A nutritionist will be helpful as well. Daily activities like doing the treadmill, walking, swimming or any kind of sports would be very helpful. Best of luck!

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Get started today!

It seems like everyone wants a quick fix. It's simple - have a sensible diet with lots of fresh, unprocessed foods, veggies, drink plenty of water, and make exercise a part of your daily routine. Don't think of exercise as a chore, make it fun by exercising with friends, taking the dog for a walk or run etc. Just have a balanced diet, spend a half hour a day walking when you get home from school/work. Also, just because you are thin from taking pills or whatever doesn't make you healthy, but a good diet and exercise will keep you fit, which improves your immune system and will improve your recovery rates and stop you from getting sick. With all the benefits of exercising, I don't really understand why people try to avoid it so much! :)

I'm afraid that excercising is something which you just HAVE to do if you want to lose more weight quick. Avoid junk food, eat veggies, lots of fruit and water, but excercise plays a big part. Just tell him to go for more walks, go swimming, play tennis or badmington with his friends at the sports local hall or something, it really helps, and he'll probably enjoy it too!

If you want to lose a few pounds fast - say in two weeks - cut the carbs, increase your water intake and walk a couple of miles 4 times a week. But trust me when I say, you'll gain it back as quick as you lost it. But this is a good remedy to fit into a bridesmaid dress on the wedding day.

Everybody wants to know that. The simple truth is there is no magic way to lose weight. Eat less, exercise more---that's the only sure safe way to do it.
