I do not know that the US has the highest percentage of Christians now, but remember the first settlers and pilgrims in America were Christians, and this country was settled by Christians leaving Europe to escape Religious persecution
Wonder Wierdo- Why the assumption that all Christians are stupid? I do not believe all Atheists are stupid. Having a different belief from another is not a sign of stupidity. Believing that all people that do not believe as you do, shows a lack of tolerance, an inability to understand others, and quite frankly makes you quite bigoted

What it has is the highest percentage of people who believe in a personal god in the 'First' or 'Western' world by a very large margin and most of these are Christians of one denimination or another, to compare it to the Vatican is just plain preposterous. European countries are Christian in name only, surveys of religious belief put belief ina personal god anywhere from 30 to 60% compared to around 90-95% in the USA.
Why? Well depite having some of the best education in the world, particularly at tertiary level, it also has some of the worst. I am always shocked how much of the US' system is built around multiple choice answering, not exactly something that leads to enquiring minds.

Not really, it is just that most people here say they are Christian, and most have never opened a bible or gone to church. Christianity today is just a popularity contest. I remember a time when most people wanted nothing to do with it because it was too hard a life to live, but now it is popular to keep sinning but claiming to be Christian and tell people not to judge you because you are a saved sinner and God is not finished with you yet. this is riduclous but true all the same.

Being an American I must admit that saying this pains me, but perhaps it's because the Americans are stupid. I am an Atheist, and though I love my country I hate my Countrymen of faith.

We don't, far far from it in fact.
Start with Vatican city. A recognized country of almost 100% Catholic (i.e. christian)
Other countries like Spain, Italy, Mexico.... There are lots.

Does it? I thought the Vatican did. After all, everyone who lives there is, for obvious reasons, a practicing Catholic.
