They don't want to know, because those old pagan ways are fun.

And they don't want to give up the fun.

Mind you, I have no trouble sharing the fun stuff with Christians, I just wish they were more willing to share back. You know, acknowledge that there's Yule and other holidays around the same time in December and such - say "Happy Holidays" and perhaps notice that they are not the only people in the world and do not own the entire month of December.

Also, Judaism had a lot invested in being different from the Pagan religions of the ancient days, and by extension so does Christianity, so it may cause some discomfort for them to acknowledge that their holidays have "borrowed" so much from the Pagan religions.

But mostly, I think it's because their leaders/preachers/Sunday school teachers don't ever teach them about the origins or customs of their holidays. And there seems to be a general disinterest in finding out about them.

They like those day, so they do not care how they began. They do not care about what God says on this issue. I know because I point this out many times a week and the usual answer is " It does not matter if the origins are pagan, the only thing that matters is WE TOOK IT OVER SO GET OVER IT, IT IS NOW CHRISTIAN," they ignore scripture where God forbids his people to celebrate pagan days claiming it as their own.

I just tell them they are as pagan as I am but aren't aware that they are pagan.

Col 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2: 20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
We are by faith new creatures through the resurrection of Jesus Christ and are free to eat and drink as is good and knowing all things are made clean by Christ we are not under any ordinaces that forbid celebrations. We by faith have entered into his Sabbath and all days belong to him.

Actually Julia the origins are pagan. There is no document that states the date Jesus was born so when the Roman empire adopted Christian teachings they also adopted the pagan God Mithras who WAS born on DEC 25th and he was a trinity God which the Church also adopted. The Church (Catholicism) is a pagan church if they realize it or not.

The "origins" of these holidays are not pagan.

Some of them -- especially Christmas -- do happen to coincide on the calendar with former pagan holidays.

But coincidence on the calendar is not the same thing as an "origin."

I was born on January 8, which also happens to be Elvis Presley's birthday.

Does that mean that my birthday has its "origins" in Elvis' birthday?
