Hi Donna...although the squirting of water can be helpful, it still leaves the problem of your kitten table-top surfing when you are not present. Therefore here are some other suggestions that may be helpful which you can experiment with:
1) Apply Sticky Tape to the Edge. Cats hate the feeling of sticky tape, and will be discouraged after one or two tries. The disadvantage is that you may have to keep reapplying it indefinitely, and the sticky stuff may be difficult to clean up afterward.
2) Tape a Strip of Aluminum Foil. It's not only the feel of it on their toes, but the noise that deters cats.
3) The Pennies in a Can Trick. This is an old tried-and-true means of deterring cats from many forms of undesirable behavior. Drop a few pennies (or pebbles) in an empty aluminum can and tape the opening. When you see your cat start to jump on the counter, shake the can loudly. The problem here is that he'll learn it's okay to jump when you're not around.
4) Another method is to place several of these "shaker cans" right at the edge of the counter with just two or three inches betweeen them. One jump will bring down all the cans, and make a terrific racket, which will also bring down the cat.
Consider investing in a climbing tree or a cat tower for your kitty since they love to be up high to see everything. Make it interesting enough to hold his attention, and once in awhile, "sweeten the deal" by hiding a tasty treat at the top. Pet him and praise him when he uses his climbing tree while you are eating at the table, so he will associate it with positive feelings.
By using a little ingenuity and staying "one jump" ahead of your cat, you should be able to discourage counter-surfing by your cat.

A good (and cheap/simple) trick I've found is to buy a plastic squirt bottle and fill it with water, and keep it nearby. Every time your kitten tries to jump up on the table, make loud, clear angry noises and spray it. You might also like to try combining the spraying with banging sharply on the table to create a scary noise.
None of this will hurt your kitten, but it will associate being sprayed and hearing a sudden, scary noise with jumping on the table, so it will (hopefully) be less likely to do it in the future!

Amy's answer is exactly spot on. This is the best remedy for keeping kittens away from certain areas. You definitely don't want a cat on your kitchen table.

Well it was only three months old so it should be easy. Everytime your kitten jumps on the table slap it,but not too hard. Keep doing it every time it jumps until it learns that it shouldn't do that.
Or if you feel that's harsh, put it somewhere else and let it play there. Sooner or later your kitten might feel enjoyable at the place it was put rather than jumping on the kitchen table.

I've mostly used to strictly say no, and then placing the cat on the floor, if she kept doing it after that I'd use the water bottle and give her a little water squirt. That way she associates walking on the table with getting wet, which she doesn't like.

Take a water gun and shoot it when it jumps up on the table. This may take a month or two but after the cat wont jump up. It worked with my cats.

You can get a spray bottle and put it on a lighter, misty-type setting. Fill it with water and have it on hand if you think he's going to jump up. When he does, just give him a quick spray and he'll get the message pretty quickly :) If you don't have the spray bottle, just tell him off verbally, clap your hands or some magazines together loudly, etc.

I have the same problem. After the cats have eaten (in the kitchen) i put them out of the room and shut the door. Cats are not easy to dissapline so just shut it out of any room you dont want it going in.

Cats don't behave, and what is wrong with her being on the table, look, she is gong to lick your plate when your bacj is turnedm poop and do all kinds of things you don't find sanitary, but they are cleaner than we are, relax, you won't die from it and both of you will be happier...
they are not trainable, they do as they please, that is why I love them/ meow.
