Suppose your playing golf with your group. On one of the par 3 holes a prize is offered for the second shot closest to the pin. You hit your drive onto the green, which you have never done before, and your putt ends up 15 inches from the hole. You are denied the price and are told it is because you did not have a second shot to the green. Your second was a putt, not a shot! Is it not the same thing?

Any time you hit the ball it is a shot. You should have done that contest on a par 4 because usually you get on a par 3 green in one shot.

A golf shot is any time you strike the ball with your club and have to add a stroke to your score. Technically putting is a golf shot.
