Because the "children" CLAIM to be speaking on behalf of the "parent"...
"The biggest single cause of Atheism today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny him with their lifestyles - THAT is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable!"

Although I try not to discredit the faith of another I do find that from time to time I get dragged down into it (for anyone I have done this to I am sorry) but you must remember that there are also Christians in here that are very quick to discredit my faith, the faith of others, and those without faith. I like to think that this can be a place for all of us to learn of each others faith and to clear up any misunderstandings about each others faith but unfortunately it seems to be human nature to turn a lot of us into playing the game of trying to prove who is right when in fact we are all correct because we have chosen the path that suits us best.

The term Christian translates to "Christ-like" and to be a Christian you are accepting a certain path and your actions are supposed to define you. A child is simply born into this world and there is no reason at all why there should be any expectation to behave a certain way, they have not commited to anything. By a Christian's perspective, we are all sons and daughters of god but that doesn't make us all Christians. Christianity is a chosen path and therefore a certain commitment comes with that, and it is not unreasonable to assume that Christians act a certain way because of this choice.

Sometimes the acts of the children DO reflect those of the parents. People are tired of a god who never shows up and allows so many people to be killed in his name.

Non believers don't believe in Jesus(as the son of a god) or God. So the question is really moot. But since the dogma states that followers should act a certain way in order to be Xian...and so many of them don't act that way, it does sully the message.

I guess as a Hindu, you consider me one of the "other religions." I agree with you that it's not right to base one's opinion of a religion based on a few bad followers, especially if the majority of the followers are good people. And it's not always the case that the child's behavior is any indicator of the behavior of the parent.

If it makes you feel any better, the reasons that I have never been interested in Christianity have nothing to do with Christians. I am happy with my deities and my religion and it's theology. I don't mind that others believe in their religion and I encourage them to follow what they feel is right. I prefer to live and let live and wish that others would give me the same respect.

I understand your point but it is true that the followers of Jesus are to be like Jesus and when those followers fail, it is a bad witness to others.

Because, like Plato to Socrates, words in the mouth of their inspirations cause the 'children' to perform diecide without realizing it.

Because Christianity seems to have a lot of the Do as I say and Not as I do mentality.
