He doesn't want to be left alone in bed and will finally fall asleep on the floor by his door. Once transferred to bed he sleeps well but will always wake at some point in the night and go back to the floor by the door. He loves his bed but just doesn't want to go there at bed time. He has a child gate on his doorway to stop him escaping. My wife is due to have our second child any day so is this security related?

You would not believe how many times this question has been asked by other parents. It must be something to do with this age group. He has a baby gate let the child sleep where he wants to-it wont hurt him. One thing you might try is to put his mattress on the floor as he might think hes gonna fall off when hes asleep.

Just let him be. He probably knows that his life is going to be turned upside down soon and wants to get all the alone time in with mom and dad while he can. You've probably been making a huge fuss about getting ready for the new baby that he feels is taking away from him. My oldest was 18 months old when I had his brother and he definitely knew something was up and that it was going to be a huge change. It was very difficult being at home with a newborn and an 18month old for the first few weeks because the older one wanted me to hold him, not the baby. All is well now though-oldest is 26 months old, baby 8 months.

My son did that from 18 months to about 2 1/2. It wasn't a big deal- he just preferred it. I bought him a little kiddie tent and put some blankets in it so he could be on the floor and I could feel like he had a bed. Eventually he chose his bed when he was ready for change. Just let him do his thing.

Sooner or later your son should get tired & uncomfortable with this sleeping arrangement. I think i would just keep popping him back into bed & not make to much of a fuss about it at this point in time. If he is still doing this on his 3rd birthday you could seek advice from a child psychologist/counsellor/health care professional. It is just his way of self soothing & it is working for the moment without causing any harm to anybody.

It's possible that he was not ready to move to a big boy bed. I know that a lot of moms kick their older child out of the crib before the new baby comes, but some kids just aren't ready.

I think your baby is going to fill things while he sleeps you know like pain. when you are born your body is straight sleeping on something soft tends to make your joins hert. so he probably like a harder serface. try taking the matress off the bed and put down a few towels. and see if he stay's in his bed.

i would just let him sleep on the floor, and when he gets alittle bit older tell him to sleep in his bed, or if you want to get down the baby thing, buy him a crip
